Anyone have a Garmin POI file for all the rec centers, pools and golf courses for TV? I will be at TV for the month of December and will be using my Garmin GPS to find my way around.
I currently am in process of creating my own POI file to upload to the GPS but it is very time consuming trying to get the proper coordinates from sources such as Google Earth, Google Maps and Microsoft Maps. A lot of the addresses are not properly converted to coordinates. On one map every address I put in for Odell came up with the same coordinates. A true bug in Google Maps.

Not a bug. A large portion of the area south of route 466 is not yet available in Google maps or Mapquest. Your GPS will be of limited support in your trips around The Villages. Best bet is to buy a detailed street map ($5 plus tax) through various sales outlets or ask your sales rep.

GT, the process that I use on Google maps shows the roads of the locations that I am looking for with no problem. The pictures may not be up to date but the roads are shown. I am using a link to a site that will convert the Google map location to lat. and long. so that I can create a POI file.
Microsoft maps cannot convert to lat and long coordinates and the photos are not up to date.
I only found one or two that it did not find the street location in Google maps. The problem is with the java script that is used to convert the street address to coordinates. There are 6 rec locations on Odell Circle and when you enter each one it comes up with the same lat. and long. Same thing is true for Canal Street.
I do have the current hard copy of the street map but I find the Garmin GPS a lot easier to use than trying to fumble with the map while driving.

GT, I have the current detailed street map but I find that using my Garmin GPS much easier and safer than fumbling with a map while driving.
As far as getting the street addresses converted to lat. and long. coordinates so a POI file can be created has been somewhat of an adventure. First of all Microsoft maps do not give you a way to convert the locations to lat. and long. The photos are more up to date compared to Google.
With Google I found a second source that will give you the location in lat and long and the streets are shown on the maps correctly for almost everything in TV that I am looking for. The problem is with the java script that is used for the conversion from a street address to coordinates. For example there are 6 rec centers on Odell Circle. Once you enter the first one into the script the same location will come up for all the Odell addresses entered. Looks like the queue is not cleared for the next entry properly. The same thing happens with Canal Street.
