We are in a new Sunflower and want to tile the backsplah with a very simple white large subway tile. We received an estimate of $1000 whoch seemed very high to us. The company estimated based on 30 sq foot. Is this the going rate for a backsplash?
Thanks for any information and recommendation for this job.

Great Lakes Tile located just before the Walmart on 441 and in Wildwood and the contractor who did many of the homes in TV including ours. We had them install 30 feet of subway tile backsplash in our 10x10 CYV kitchen plus installed indoor outdoor carpet in our 8X14 lanai for a total of $1100 for both jobs materials and labor. That also included a couple of 12"x12" sheets of small blue tile which they cut into 2" strips and ran a color border through the middle to break up the white.
I had used subway tile in a remodel in our home up north in 2008, I remember they were 19 cents apiece at Home Depot. I just checked their website and a case of the 3"x6" white subway tile to cover 10 square feet is $17.60. You need 3 boxes plus some of the bullnose rounded ends tiles and mortar and grout, so maybe $100 total material. I would shop around, in fact search this website for tile installers. Every month somebody is raving about their kitchen. Do that for everything you do to your home and you'll save yourself a lot of grief and money.
I don't know if you're screen is big enough to see this, but here is our 10x10 kitchen and you can maybe see the blue band running through the middle. Our walls are painted a light blue and the white backsplash does stand out, but it's hard to see with that chandelier light so bright.

We had out backsplash done by William C. Parker of Belleview (352-347-0954) and we were extremely pleased with his work and his service. If I remember correctly, the total job was around $400.

Normally tile installation can be quoted for around $8.00 to $10.00 per square foot including tile, labor, and materials. Some factors can influence price such as it being a small job. The Tile Contactor has to set up tools just like for doing a big job and time is money. That being said it shouldn't be a big impact on price. I think between $400.00 and $500.00 would be a reasonable quote. Remember, the cheapest price isn't always your best option.

We used Tile in Style, Wildwood, Dan Dyer 610-496-7320 (cell), excellent work, very price competitive, excellent work ethic. He has also done several neighbors.

We found an installer whose work we loved (he did several jobs for us, closet organizing, garage shelving, tile drilling for installation, electrical changes etc). He only does installations and referred us to Bowen Tile in Ocala for selection of the tile. The have an extensive showroom and product variety. We dealt with them independently although Bowen did coordinate with the installer who picked up the tile from Bowen. I only mention this because there are options to buying and having the installation done by the same company....it worked well for us.

Just yesterday we had our Gardenia backsplash done by Patti at Affordable Countertop Resurfacing & Backsplashes. HIGHLY recommend her to any Villagers (as she is a Villager also!)
For what we selected, total cost (including product and labor) less than $600

I find white cabinets with stainless steel appliances the best look for the money. Yet, whenever I look through TV new homes and open the photos, it seems whoever is picking out the products has an affinity for black appliances and unstained, unattractive cabinets. You're kitchen looks great, someone from TV should take a look.
In 2008 we remodeled our kitchen at our home in Baltimore, this is it. When we put our home up for sale in 2011 the first people to see our home (new Wegmans mgr), bought our home. It sold in 18 hours, we hated to leave. We actually paid Remington Kitchens of Leesburg to reface our current home with white cabinets.

I tried to post photos of the tile that Dan (610-496-7320) did for us, backsplash and knee wall in our gardenia, however, they failed uploading. If interested, send me a PM with your email address and I will forward. He does excellent work.
