Hi all. This post is for Tal and Nonie, and of course everyone else. But Tal and Nonie gave me a lot of info regarding the rescue of dogs. Well Saturday Barbara and I rescued Prancer. She is a Greyhound. Three years old and a female. She has been off the race track for only two weeks. Saturday was her first day in public. There was a meet and greet at Pet Smart. We went and the rest is history. Prancer will meet vet appointments and she will be delivered to us in two weeks.

Prancer is a doll! Like Grace said, Greyhounds are my heart and soul. We are on our second pair now, and the breed can't be beat IMHO. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions regarding track life vs. home life or anything that comes to mind. It does take a month or two for all the kinks to work out usually, a lot of times less, sometimes more. It breaks my heart to think they have gone their entire life not knowing what a "baby" is, what laughter hugs and kisses are. I named my first Grey Gracie, as she defined Grace. She had a horrible history, but didn't have a mean bone in her body. She made it her mission to make everyone else feel they are the most loved beings on earth.

Just a quick word of warning, it is very hard to have only one. I can't think one person out of the dozens of "Grey" people I know that have only one. Chipping is what we call that. (can't have just one chip... ;))

Welcome home to Prancer, from the Bama' Gang, :)

Here's a pic of their daily afternoon game of chase...don't you see how adding a second is the next natural step!

Rozzie thanks so much for the support. Beautiful pic's of yours. Hope we can all meet one day and watch them romp. If we get ourselves in a pickle, we will call for advice. Right now the shelter head has given us a list of things we will need and we have just about got it complete. Thanks again, Johnny

Johnny and Barbara,
Congrats on your new addition! She looks so sweet. We almost adopted a grey many years ago at a state fair in New York but it was 8 hours away and we had to go back so we decided to wait. It was too far to travel at the time. Sounds like a cop out but there were other circumstances which just were not conducive. They are the most agile, sweet dogs. They deserve loving parents after the life they've lived. Good luck with her. Hope to meet you all when we visit in March!

Johnny, I am so proud of you and Barbara for following through on your plan. That is a wonderful act of kindness. My friend rescued a greyhound that is 12 now. A wonderful pet and very loyal.

I hope you have many wonderful years ahead with Prancer. Hope to see you soon at Doggie Doo Run Run.

Here is a picture of my iggy's (Italian Greyhounds):

Their names are Prancer and Vixen. (My Prancer is a male though!) Italian greyhounds are just like the larger greyhounds in temprament and looks, but they are miniature. My male is 11 pounds and the female is 10 pounds. They are truly lap dogs, because you can't sit down without them climbing into your lap. They chase each other just like your's Rozzie! Greyhounds are just born to run, they love it so much! They are such gentle dogs too! You will want to have that second dog so Prancer can have company. They love to curl up together. I'm sure you are excited and can't wait until she is with you! Congrats!

Italian Greyhounds - a friend of ours had one and we saw it frequently. They are a bundle of energy and unbelievably friendly.

Rescued Greyhounds are beautiful and gentle animals who need a lot of love and reinsurance so that they will not be afraid of people again.

They are so gracefull when they walk, sit and get up.

sschuler1, Two Prancer's???? Is TV ready for that? Your Italians are quite a handsome pair. I am partial to Italians, too. F-16 Sadie Mae will have a ball with all these pals. We are so excited as the homecoming nears, we are like two little kids. Will definitely keep you all updated. Thanks for the kind words and pic's everyone! Rozzie and Sschuler, I think we'd better wait a while on the second one.

Did someone say Iggy? I got one of those too!!!!!!!! Italian's are great little dogs, our little guy Peter steals everyone's heart he meets! He runs with our big greys and truly believes he is bigger and badder than them. :icon_wink:

Hope you will add your dog to the pack of greyhounds-- large and small as there are a lot of Italian greyhounds at Doggie Doo Run Run-- at one of the local dog parks. Only Doggie Doo Run Run seems to have enough space for the real runners to take off.

This WHOLE thread is just heartwarming.

Rozzie. Peter is ANOTHER handsome fellow. Do you have a picture of your kittie? She has to be a very calm feline to be around all that RUNNING!
