I saw something like this when out-and-about around 7:15 PM tonight here in the Villages. I was wondering what it is called and where it goes?

It would be interesting to get a legal challenge to these. Pedaling with an open container, maybe?

Hmmm! Good question. Do you think they would go on MMPs? Oh just think of the threads that might result from your question.

Bikes are held to most traffic situations. Dui's and open containers included.

We saw it also on Belvedere Blvd with music loudly playing and people partying. I've never seen anything like it in The Villages.

We got Beef O'Brady's take-out last night and that is where I saw the people getting on this pedalcart. It looked like about eight people and a driver/host/bartender.

Since the peddlers are not driving, and using a DD the peddlers would be good. There is a permit posted on this vehicle for the purpose of travel. Usually it goes from place to place and people hop on and off.

The people had parked golf carts and cars at Beef O'Brady's at Southern Trace. It was full from what I saw. I was wondering if it went to the bars around Sumter Landing or just traveled around Belvedere/Lynnhaven/Ashland etc.

Two hours for $380? Plus a tip for the bartender I assume?
Not a bad price for 15 people for a very unique happening.
Would like to find more information about the company in the Villages that is doing this. I do not drink so it would not be an option for me.

It is pedalparties.com
It holds 11 people, 8 pedaling, 3 riding and is $250 for 2 hours.
I've done it with my softball team and we had a blast. It is just like in a golf cart, no open containers. They start up around beef o'bradys and go to sumter and stop at 2 or 3 places for people to get off and grab a drink.
Home (http://www.pedalparties.com)
They are also on facebook. I heard that in January they are going to do scavenger hunts and poker runs where people can book single seats.
Oh another thing we loved about this one, the one we did in Tavares was pedal powered ONLY. Our legs were killing us! On this one, when we didn't want to pedal, we hollered and the driver engaged the electric motor!

I just saw on their website where they have an outing this thursday that looks pretty fun. A villages athletic competition, of sorts, where they stop at rec centers and everyone competes at different villages games. Not sure what the prizes are but it's a way for people to go without having to get up a group of 11.

so it's a fun way to get drunk before being returned to your cars and carts? sounds like 'fun'. can't wait till the police show their appreciation by waiting in the parking lot for your return with a breathalyzer.

There may be some taxis going to Southern Trace Plaza to drop people off.

My son and a group of 14 had a blast on a Pedal Bar in Raleigh, NC. Knowing there would be plenty of drinking along the way, they all took Uber to and from the Party. It is a new world - pedal bars and uber!

They do get happy hour drinks at the square. They make 2 or 3 stops during the 2 hour party. As has been previously mentioned, open container laws apply to the party bike. It's just like being in your golf cart.
People do it to have fun with a group. My softball team had a blast when we did it.

Why would a business be allowed to use the MMP's?

Why would a business be allowed to use the MMP's?
For the same reason that the Liquid Lights BUSINESS cart is allowed to use them??
The bike has an electric motor to aid the people pedaling. Would you prefer they do 10 mph on Buena Vista?

You are comparing apples to oranges.
The fact there is an electric motor has nothing to do with it.

It has everything to do with it according to the Sumter county Sheriff. If the bike had no motor, it would be considered strictly a bicycle and would operate legally on any road (like the dozen party bikes operating outside the Villages in Florida right now). Because it has an electric motor, similar to a golf cart, it cannot go on Morse or Buena Vista.
I suppose you could argue apples and oranges with the Sheriff if you'd like.

May have been the party my softball team was on. The driver was using the motor and we clocked it at 15-17 depending on grade. When I called to book another group outing, the owner told me that Sumter County told them to stay on the multi modal. It creates a problem because they have to remove the
top to get thru the tunnels, but the owner said they are just trying to do everything to comply. Apparently it's difficult when you've got Sumter county and The Villages to deal with. All the other ones in Florida (there are 10 or 12) operate just fine with no interference. Not here.

I think Pedal Bars here are a poor idea.....promoting bad behaviors is never good. Then on the MMP's....how many golf carts backed up behind it??!! We've seen these in cities and weren't impressed...but they were in downtown areas and not residential.

Most of us are in our 60's & 70's. I think it's a little late in our lives to worry about someone helping us by promoting bad behavior. We are old enough to be responsible for our own behavior. :loco:

so we have a commercial conveyance operating on private property and there is no fee paid to maintain the roads, bad precedent. the owners amenity fees don't cover a separate commercial endeavor. the mmps were never designed for that size vehicle creating an unsafe condition. good luck with unraveling all the legalities if there is an accident....I don't want to be sued because a commercial vehicle full of drunks was allowed to operate on our private mmps.

It does indeed look like fun. Something different. I first saw one of these in Savannah, GA about five years ago.
As far as operating on the MMP's. That is a valid question. I would hope that the owner carries a healthy insurance policy that covers property damage, injury, etc. Not sure if that would answer any liability concerns. Worth looking at I would say.

They probably had a lawyer look over all the angles when they started this business. It looks like in other cities they have to maneuver around complicated laws.

You should check out the waiver on every single party bike operating in the country. It's the exact same. I've done it in 6 different cities and signed the same thing. Just like the waiver you sign when you participate in any sport in The Villages. It's required by the insurance company.
