They are using a new website. Axis360.
Adm office said people complained about having to go to Kindle to read their book, books and audiobooks are within this site.

Go to website: sumtercountyfl.gov Then click on government and then library services. You will see instructions on downloading the app.

Unfortunately the new app does not support Kindle. See the following response to my inquiry regarding log in problems:
Thank you for contacting the library. I'm sorry you are having troubles with the app.
What type of device are you using? If you are using the website, Magic Wall (http://sclsfl.axis360.baker-taylor.com/), then please try checking out a book before registering. It seems counter-intuitive, but Axis 360 technical support has explained that this is the work around for getting registered on the site.
Also, please keep in mind that these eBooks are not available for the eReader Kindle Paperwhite. The Amazon eReaders were designed to only work with the Amazon store and this new system does not support the Amazon ebook format. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
If you have a tablet or Kindle Fire, then you can download the app for an all-inclusive reading experience, or you can download the ePub format of a eBook for transfer to a device that supports that format.

Do they have anything at the library that explains this better?
Sounds like they are going backwards. The process was so simple even a caveman could do it.

The library systems of Lake, Sumter and Marion counties have borrowing reciprocity agreements with each other. If you are a resident in any of the three, you can apply for a library card in each of the three counties if you choose. You have to apply in person.
Marion and Sumter have recently switched to Axis360 software for ebook borrowing. Lake, however, continues with Overdrive. Since your device works with Overdrive, you might want to consider applying for a Lake County library card so you can continue to enjoy borrowing and reading ebooks on your Kindle.
There is no charge for a library card in any of the three counties.

But they do not have many new e-books at Lady Lake. At least the ones I want to read. I just checked and it seems that a lot of the ones they have are audio only. I guess I will have to see about the Axis software. I don't mind downloading the book as an epub. It is just extra steps.

Strange. I followed the instructions and downloaded and installed Axis360. I put a few books on hold. When I exited Axis360, there is no icon on my Kindle for Axis360. I set up Magic Wall in my Favorites and can get to it.
Did anyone installAxis3060 and not get the icon on their Kindle? OR other device?

Forget it. Apparently I have an old Kindle and it is not compatible.

Wonder why the app worked at all.

I downloaded an eBook using Magic Wall and was able to put it in to the Adobe Digital Editions 3.0 but that will only let me read it on the PC. I added the book to Calibre so I could convert it to MOBI so I could download it but got stopped by DRM because it is not a free book.
I know that I have downloaded EPUBs from the library to my Kindle to read. I just cannot remember how I did it.
Back to Google.
If anyone has any ideas I would be glad to try them.
Upgrading my Kindle is not a viable one.

In an earlier post, I said that Sumter, Lake and Marion county library systems had reciprocity agreements with each other. Things have changed or else time clouded my memory of how the 3 library systems interact.
This is today's info from their respective web sites:
Marion and Lake have reciprocity agreements with each other.
Sumter will issued a library card to a Florida resident with appropriate proof.
So if you're a Lake or Marion County resident, you can freely borrow in all 3 county's libraries while Sumter County residents have free borrowing only in their own county's libraries.

I don't use the library much since I joined BookBub. I now have over 1,000 free ebooks that will take me a while to get through. When I do check out an ebook, I usually go though the Philadelphia library since they have a much better selection and availability and I can do everything using Aldiko which is a great reading app.
Out of curiosity, I went to the Sumter site, downloaded Axis360 and checked out an ebook. Axis seems to be very slow and it's not much of a reader. Very few user options and you can't even change the page color to cut back on glare. On the Google Play Store, Axis gets a 2 out of 5 star rating - one of the lowest I've seen. I did get an icon for Axis on my Android home page. I hope the Philadelphia library doesn't adopt Axis. Overdrive is much easier.

I have lots of free books from BookBub but I still like to read the latest from some authors. Since I cannot use the library for eBooks, I will go back to the real books for those authors.
I guess one of my problems with this switchover - no one was notified.

I have used Overdrive for the past few years and I was very happy with it. So far, not impressed with axis360. Half the time they want my card number and pin. When I put it in it say it's wrong. Today when I clicked on the App it went to a screen that looked like I would be able to get to the Book I was reading, but the screen is frozen. What a headache! I will be making a trip to the Belvedere Library tomorrow (that is if they answer their phones so that I can make an appointment)!

I was ticked off too that the library discontinued overdrive. A couple years ago, a private contractor took over the library. Perhaps this is all art of some cost saving measure.

I too, am not a fan of the change.
I don't think they realize how many people use Kindles. I plan to go to the Sumter Library on Pinellas in person and ask if they are going to make any changes to the system to accomodate the Kindle users.
I don't think they realize how many people they just shut out of their system.
