I live in Tamarind Grove, to put it very blunt. There is a man who exercises in his drive way @ 6:30 am blaring music every morning. Today this was the topper-@ 12:30 he was sprawled out on his front lawn in shorts--bare chested - stretched out in some un Godly stretched position.

This guy is a first class nut--the neighborhood refers to him as Miami Mike

jojo

We can match that in Amelia. There is a guy who parades around in the briefest of Speedos all summer long. He walks across the street from his house through the postal station to the pool and even walks his dog in this attire. Ugh!

Hi chatbrat and jojo do the guys your talking about also wear thick gold chains around their necks and flashy pinky rings. God I hate that look

From your descriptions these guys think they leave residents "breathless" when the fact is they leave residents with the impression they are "clueless

This reminds me that back home we would refer to this type as ja beeps.
What's a ja beep..think Joey Buttafucco..thinking I'm so kool while people just shake their heads and shrug their shoulders.

Always find a silver lining, and at least you and your neighbors are getting some type of entertainment and conversation..." Alice, you know what that
ja beep did this morning"

Personal Best Regards:

Imagine what everyone would be saying if these two were women!

I was looking after a friend's home and cat in Amelia this summer when they were away for a week.

I was driving home in my cart, when my attention was drawn to a scantily clad 'woman' working in her yard. Much of her was hidden by some bushes, As I got closer I realized it was 'speedo' guy.

I raced home as fast as I could. It was the first time I have ever had to wash my eyes out with soap.

Blaring music outdoors at 6:30am would seem to be covered by some sort of noise ordinance. Have you called the Sumter County Sheriff's Office to find out, or report the offense? I know I would if the music was loud enough to wake me inside my home. I think there is an 8am noise ordinance because none of the landscapers will start cutting grass until then.

I remember when I was 10 years old living in St. Petersburg and I was riding on the back of my dad's motorcycle. He pulled over to the side one day and said did you see that? I said, see what. He said that man naked in his backyard. We saw a police officer a few minutes later and my dad flagged him down. He reported the incident and directed the officer to the home. The policeman knocked on his back door and asked the man if he was outside his home naked. The man said no, but he was wearing just a robe with shoes and socks. The police issued him a ticket right there.

Quit complaining about your fellow villagers on this site. These types of threads hurt the villages reputation. Have any of you chronic complainers bothered to meet these people and talk to them? Maybe they are great neighbors that just love the outdoors and the sun. At least the workout guy is trying to stay healthy. (I know. You play golf every day. Riding around in a golf cart and standing over a little white ball isn't exactly intense exercise. Ok, for some of you, it is. But for people in half way decent shape it isn't.) These human targets of your ire could turn out to be your best friends. Maybe the speedo guy is European. We are a nation of immigrants. And anyway, what's the big deal? You're retired.

It sounds more like you are the one with the problem. He has every right to be on his lawn and exercise there. Or in his drive way . If the music is too high in volume, You could ask him to lower it some. That is what people do. In the USA men do not need to have a shirt on. Actually woman do not either in most places in the country.

If an individual wants to look foolish(IMO)then I'm okay with that as I can avert my gaze or shut my eyes.

To the unwanted music you either ignore(I would if it only happened once or twice)...confront the person(you'll likely get a manly "mind your own business")...or call the non-emergency police number and file a disturbing the peace complaint. I opt for the last choice and I do so because: a)you can't shut your ears b)the person clearly does not care what they do c)they could have easily avoided the issue with headphones, earbuds and did not.

To those who think it's his right....what about everyone else? Do they have any rights or is it only those who do things that disturb others? No one should have to put up with noisy neighbors. That is why there are noise and disturbing the peace laws. You don't like those laws then get up a petition to repeal them, but just remember when you have an emergency the the cop who responds hasn't had much sleep due to noisy neighbors...or your doctor, nurse, 1st responder....

Before the mean boys pounce on me again. I hope to heaven I am not a snob. I was kidding around again.

I looked it up and on the internet there are rules for being a snob.

Here is one of them;

Pretending to be something you are not can make you a fake. People that are your friends when you are faking are just friends of the fake you. Also, your current friends might be offended and ignore you.
Remember that looking rich may well entail exactly the opposite of being rich. Someone who spends $300 on a wristwatch may have an impressive-looking wristwatch, but will be $300 poorer.
Don't be stupid and mean, if you act mean, no one will like you.

I do agree with the last line.

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is a personality disorder in which a person is excessively preoccupied with personal adequacy, power, prestige and vanity, mentally unable to see the destructive damage they are causing to themselves and others. It is a cluster B personality disorder.[1]

It is estimated that this condition affects one percent of the population, with rates greater for men. First formulated in 1968, NPD was historically called megalomania, and is a form of severe egocentrism.[2]

If it was a good looking granddaughter or even a 50 something widower in a bikini I don't think we would have this thread. Then again, maybe we would if all the male neighbors spent their free time cutting her lawn, painting her house, taking out her garbage, actually she wouldn't have to lift a finger.

Back in Maryland I woke one night at 3am and looked out the front window and saw something in the driveway at the house across the street. The street light wasn't bright enough and they didn't have a porch light on. I thought at first it was someone breaking into their car. After watching for a couple of minutes I realized it was someone doing jumping jacks. The next day I asked my neighbor about it, and she said she liked to workout at 3am.

I still have mixed feelings on this

The loud music at 6AM is clearly wrong and probably violates some statutes.

Beyond that, my first thought was who are we to tell him when to exercise, where to exercise, what to wear , etc

But then again, since 8 inch garden gnomes have been deemed offensive and prohibited so others don't have to view them, this guy sounds a lot bigger and more offensive appearing than a gnome.

I suppose if he is quiet, then nobody has to look, but I guess I'm still ambivalent

Loud music at 6 am is very inconsiderate, plus I'd just feel a tad embarrassed for the poor guy, but to each his own! If I don't want to see it, I don't have to watch his morning um..calisthenics.

A friend of mine at one time resided next door to a plastic surgeon whose wife was a former Miss America or some other big deal beauty contest winner. She was in her thirties, no doubt having had some lifts, tucks and augmentation done, and looked absolutely stunning! She used to jog around in her backyard which was surrounded by a high fence. My friend's son, a teenager, spent many a happy moment observing the lady doing her workout routine though a small gap in the fence. Everyone knew about this yet no one complained. I guess it depends on the shape of the body being revealed.

There is a retired ballet dancer or something like that who walks her dog along one of the Villages' streets. She still looks stunning no matter what she wears. Saw her yesterday and then today too. I have no idea how old she is but would guess she is now 50 to 60 years old.

Insanity, craziness or madness is a spectrum of behaviors characterized by certain abnormal mental or behavioral patterns. Insanity may manifest as violations of societal norms, including a person becoming a danger to themselves or others, though not all such acts are considered insanity; likewise, not all acts showing indifference toward societal norms are acts of insanity. In modern usage, insanity is most commonly encountered as an informal unscientific term denoting mental instability, or in the narrow legal context of the insanity defense. In the medical profession the term is now avoided in favor of diagnoses of specific mental disorders; the presence of delusions or hallucinations is broadly referred to as psychosis. :read:

what i like to know is how we went from working out at 6:30 am in speedo's to yelling at his wife, to looking in to someones windows.
Come on with the houses so close proximity, it is impossible to walk on the side of a home without walking 5 feet from someones windows.
It sounds like no one likes this person because he's different and all you folks in my opinion need to get a life if you are listening to a husband and wife having a dispite.

Sorry for the loud music at 630am. Maybe if you joined him in YOUR speedo it might make a point? Let me know if you need any help and I will dig out my teeny tiny polka-dot bikini...

I can see that the blaring music at 6:30 AM might be a problem. However if your neighbor is doing yoga at noon, why would that offend you?

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is a personality disorder in which a person is excessively preoccupied with personal adequacy, power, prestige and vanity, mentally unable to see the destructive damage they are causing to themselves and others. It is a cluster B personality disorder.[1]

It is estimated that this condition affects one percent of the population, with rates greater for men. First formulated in 1968, NPD was historically called megalomania, and is a form of severe egocentrism.[2]

don't really care what people do and am aware that there are probably things about me that others dislike.

However on the serious side I believe there is a noise ordinance to refrain from noise until 8:00AM. At least that is best as I can recall. Besides being thoughtful is one of my good traits:D and I never do yard work until 8:00 AM so as not to disturb my late sleeping neighbors

I also agree that the two people being discussed are no doubt really nice people and I hope they would view all this chatter as just having a little fun

In fact I hope no one participating on this thread takes it that seriously. Its just another past time distraction ,etc for me . an opportunity to visit about various topics express an opinion but like a bad golf shot once done I think upon no more.

Simply trying to put things into proper prospective. Personally, I don't like people ganging up on anyone because they are different in appearance or behavior. I abhor the feeding frenzy by pseudo intellectuals who use witty phrases and words to bash people and simultaneously gather support from others under the guise of mature innocence and wisdom.
I also don't like when one person who 's opinion deviates from the norm is summarily bashed so as to appear "weird", out of touch, with the same old love it or leave it attitude.
People are different for a reason, they are individuals. If someone has the resources to buy a ticket into paradise they are entitled to live their life in any way they choose without harassment as long as they do no harm to others.

It might well be if we were naming names and kicking fanny. We don't know exactly where Chatbrat lives....don't know if there are dozens of Speedo wearers. Don't even know who Chatbrat is or who you are. The Speedo wearer or the driveway exerciser probably don't read TOTV...and if they do...well one needs to get a longer and NEWER bathing suit and the other could turn off the music. In my opinion. Which is worth absolutely nothing except to people who love me.

I am not anonymous.

This is like a college campus. We're all about the same age, we all can use the same amenities and separate checks is the norm. That's huge. There's not a lot of diversity here. The speedo doesn't matter to me. Like you said, he's not hurting anyone. For all I know it could have been a made up story to lighten the conversation.

There's a lot conversations out there about people who are not like us. They are on tv and in the news all the time and we are constantly reminded that we ought to be afraid. I'd rather talk about speedos.

I didn't aim to hurt anyone's feelings about their choice of bathing suits or about exercising, did you? I think exercising and wearing bathing suits are an excellent choice. I can't help trying to find a bit of humor in things that aren't that serious to begin with. I think you will agree?

My folks didn't have money to send kids to college. There are people who are good people who have a lot of formal education and those who have learned about life in the military or by working hard all of their lives. I am pretty sure all of us are more compassionate because of terribly hard and bitter things that have happened to us inevitably.

If we have the ability to read people pretty well and truly care about others, we have won the lottery.

Actually after watching people in Reno and Las Vegas as well as Phoenix, Minneapolis, Chicago, Tampa, St. Petersburg, and especially San Francisco; the guy in the speedo seems to be quite a tame thing to experience or hear about someone meeting.

My neighbor in Palm Harbor-- a Coast Guard helicopter pilot-- used to buzz the house every so often when he was on duty and off to see if his wife was cheating on him. The whole mess resulted in a divorce. No this was nothing to do with me but I was often in the pool on an mattress probably in a bathing suit. Homes in Palm Harbor had fences. Not ours as we had the pool with the lanai and birdcage.

I have no complaints about people treating their Villages' pets very well.
