We have received comments from some members that TOTV has been running slow for about a month. We could not figure out why, because in other parts of the country, people had no problem.

Late yesterday afternoon, the site went down all together, for some members (including me). For others, it was fine. I spent over an hour on the phone Monday night with Comcast tech support. Not once did they ever try to tell me that it was not their problem. They said they didn't know what the problem was, but they would check into it.

At about 10 p.m. it came back up and it is now lightening fast. Whatever they did, I appreciate it, and I am sure you do to.

I've noticed pretty much the same thing with my service. Of course the TOTV site is always slow, but when all my regulars are bogged down it has to be Comcast. The free McAfee security software also tends to slow things down. It is a real resource hog.

My internet was running slow for a few days, so I cleaned out my temp files and cookies. That didn't seem to be the problem. So I defragmented my C drive. That didn't seem to clear things up. So I finally called Comcast to complain. The rep that I talked to ran a diagnostic while I was on the phone, and told me that the problem was in the outside line. So she set up an appointment to have a service rep come out to look at the line the next day. We received a phone call the next morning from Comcast saying that it was an area wide problem and would be resolved by the end of the business day. Within a few hours our internet was superfast again. That was yesterday!

That is interesting. TOTV was timing out for me yesterday evening but other sites opened fine. I am on Comcast also with the highest speed service.

Don't know if it means anything but the golf system on the computer and phone are also out and have been for some time. Now they say back up Wednesday evening but no tee times were set prior to today so who knows what will happen with tee times. The office said it is an entire system failure.

I had a problem with TOTV yesterday evening but all other sites were as fast as usual. I figured it was the TOTV site. All the ads that come up all the time.

Fran....I heard the Tee time system was down too....a little scary for those that work on the courses and for those that want to golf....

Has anyone found out what the problem is? This is posted on the web site:

"We have switched to a manual tee time system for the day of play. Tee Times will be first come first serve, either by calling the course or showing up at the course. Ladies Day will not be affected. For the latest information, tune in to VNN or WVLG."

Of course nothing in the paper (that I've noticed) and nothing on Channel 2 and I just don't listen to the radio during the week.

Blue,

Sounds like a computer hardware failure....yesterday morning they were talking on the radio about needing to order "more parts" that would arrive by midday followed by lots of testing. They thought it might be back by Tues evening but didn't happen.

It is ironic to have this major system failure right after they announced a price increase for non-Comcast subscribers. Also, thanks to this thread, I learned that the Comcast subscriber free access was time-limited....never knew that.

As others have questioned, I sure would like to see how the budget for the tee time system is determined and justified. It should not be a profitable venture just a cost covering charge. Another good task for the amenity advisory group.

I was just able to access and reserve a tee time. :a040:

I found my letter from Comcast. It reads: "As a benefit, Comcast High-Speed Internet customers will enjoy complimentary access to www.thevillages.net through June 2009.

The letter was dated October 4, 2004.

I hope we are going to be notified so we can take appropriate action.
