It seems that a birdcage will keep most animals and birds off of a patio, but does it also keep mosquitos and other bugs away?
I guess it will also keep leaves from falling on a patio or into a swimming pool, but is that really a problem in most areas?
We would really like to install a hot tub behind whatever house we may buy and I am wondering if it is important to have it covered by a birdcage.

We moved here in early September. We have our bbq under our birdcage and frequently sit out there having cocktails when the weather is right for it. It does keep the bugs away, and I wouldn't consider not having one, especially if I had a pool or hot tub. When there is a good stiff breeze, stuff blows from everywhere into our yard.

I'm very glad to hear this. I was concerned the mesh screen on a birdcage would not be as fine as the mesh on a house screen and small bugs like mosquitos would get in.

We have the hot tub on the Lanai (ours was extended 31ft by 12 ft), so it fit very nicely. This allows year round use, and use when it is raining, however, I avoid during T&L storms. We just added a large birdcage, and decided to just move to hot tub to a location, still in the lanai that was out of the way of the walking path to the lanai. Also during the hot summer, we have the hot tub heaters turned off, stay around 90 degrees, but is great for cooling off during July and August, and we are in SHADE.
This works very well for us, you will need to look at how you plan to use the HT, and install for that function.
[B][/A word of caution, hot tubs require two (2) permits, one for the hot tub itself, and one for the electrical connections. We found this out the hard way, when ours was installed by the supplier WITHOUT getting the permits.B]

And the love bugs out.
Same mesh screen as used in your screen doors.

I think the homes on the golf courses use birdcages as self defense against broken windows by golfers like me!

Foremost a birdcage is an extension of living for their house so when they entertain I don't have to worry about bugs flying around your guess. Each time we have had someone over we spent most of her time and alumni and the birdcage.

Brought with hot tub previously installed how do you know or find out it the premits was done. My house has been sold twice. I would think this would of been checked prior to sale by the villages realtors? Or am I assuming to much?

You have 2 choices, you can call or go to the Sumter county offices (Pinellas Plaza), or you can go online to the website and search for permits. Here is the link:
https://etrakit.sumtercountyfl.gov/etrakit3/Search/permit.aspx
on the drop down, change to "site address", leave the begins with alone, and type in your address, you should get a list of permits for your house.
The first spa permit, is a building permit that checks for tempered glass, and other items. The second is the electrical, and is required if the spa is hardwired (no a plugin unit). In theory, the electrical contractor cannot get the electrical permit unless the building permit was taken out.
Hope this helps.

It is also, and perhaps mainly, used for safety. That is it keeps outsiders out of your pool area where they may drown and you will be sued. Same reason for the window and patio door alarms.
