Street legal carts

While we are complaining why do street legal carts with a valid plate run the golf cart path. They run a bit faster than most regular carts. Does that mean I can drive my small car on the GC path.I know some do. Maybe a cart path police cruiser.

If you could paraphrase that a bit, it would be helpful. Before my eyes crossed, I deduced that they don't really know what's allowed on the paths because no definitions of multi-modal path, non-vehicular, non-automotive, nor golf cart (pretend I put all those in quotes) were given.

Street legal LSV's are not allowed to go over 20mph on the multimodal paths. They can be ticketed for speeding.

Had the unfortunate situation to get stuck behind a street legal cart on Pinellas Place this afternoon between Buena Vista and Morse. I have nothing against these carts except when they travel at 22moh in a 30mph zone. I can't tell you how many vehicles were backed up behind me but, I would imagine many of them raised their arm with a gesture when the cart turned off near Bonifay.

I've always been told that Police cannot ticket for speeding on MMPs, but they can ticket for dangerous driving or DUI or open bottles.

This actually raises more questions than answers. Perhaps some of the lawyers here can weigh in.

Are MMPs private property? Does it make sense that LEOs would enforce some laws that apply to roads and not others? Walmart's parking lot is "private property"---can I speed there or drive drunk?

Can I drive my cart in circles on my own property at excessive speed or in a dangerous manner, or have an open bottle on it? I do know the law also differentiates between inside and outside a home. For example, I could hold a group sex therapy counseling class in my house, but if I did the same thing in my front yard, the police might have something to say.

You can get drunk at home, but if you assault someone, being on "private property" does not shield you. So are MMPs private like a home?, or private but open to the public like Walmart?, are they private with an easement for MMPs? Are they private but in public view like a front yard? And what is the role of law enforcement?

Most important thing about LSV vs golf carts-IMHO, you've got to have a death wish to want to drive a 25 mph vehicle on a 35 mph road where a car driver can drive 40 mph & only receive a warning.

It is my understanding (saw something about it on another post) that the legal advisor to the sheriff has written a memo indicating that the sheriff's office has no enforcement authority on the multi-modal paths. They are only authorized by state statute to enforce laws on the street.

I am not aware of speed limits on the multi modal paths, nor have I ever seen any speed limit signs posted on them.

The law for NEVs/LSVs is that they can not be capable of exceeding 25 mph, I think. Most LSVs go less than 25 mph. Change the law.

I have been a member for 6 years and this must be the 35th time this issue has been raised, scrutinized and solved. Why? Because our golf carts are our everything, our pals and our identity :gc: God Bless America, Land........
