Launder and or iron shirts in your home $

I usually have 10 shirts than need to be laundered and ironed per month. I could wash them, but I don't want or know how to iron them. Dry cleaners charge about 2.50 to clean and press. I would like to pay about half of that. Do you know of anyone who takes in and irons? Thanks Bill

I wash all of our iron able laundry on low in cold water
I put in dryer on ultra low
Set the wrinkle release button
I take them out of dryer immediately with no need to iron

$2.50 sounds like a deal to me. I buy my husband shirts from LLBean that do not require any ironing. You put them in the dryer for about 2 minutes hang and smooth and they are good to go.

How can you help him out? Who does the rest of his laundry? I think someone is pulling our leg.

You know if you put one short sleeve shirt inside of another you could probably get them cleaned for half the amount of money, $12.50.

Poor guy.....guess you weren't in the military or you would have had to learn how to press your shirts. Expertly, might I add.

step by step:
1. iron the back of the shirt
2. iron the back yoke of the shirt ( the shoulder area in the back)
3. iron the right side of the front of the shirt paying special attention to pocket and
placket ( that's the area along the front where the button holes are)
4. iron the left side of the front of the shirt
5. iron each sleeve, fold the sleeve along the seam line from under arm to cuff, then press from shoulder to cuff, adding a crease
6. iron cuffs
7. iron collar

Seriously not that hard......

No iron shirts are much better, but you could press those shirts that need ironing while watching football, golf, bowling, basketball or the news.

My feeling is that everyone (man or woman) needs to know how to take care of their clothing. If you don't iron, don't buy shirts that need ironing.

I don't iron anymore. It's too easy to buy wrinkle-free fabrics now. That is my first requirement when purchasing any clothing.

Bonny, thanks for the easy to follow steps.
My ex bought most of these shirts, she liked to iron. I did not mention this to my attorney, now I wish I had. Still, I don't feel like ironing. I know how to wash and dry, and how to hang them on hangers, as some of my shirts are perm press. I will just hope that someone reads this and takes mercy on me. Thanks Bill

In Annapolis, we had a Zips dry cleaners that did everything for 1.79 each piece. You could even request light starch all over or just the collar. There doesn't seem to be anything like that near here.

Hello Tom, Well, the shirts were my biggest problem, but now I have brown spots in my lawn. It's a conspiracy.
And yes to Opmoochler, when I lived in the Clearwater area I was getting my shirts done at a cleaners for about 1.80. I do think 2.50 is excessive, and they want 5 bucks for pants, I'm not even going there! Still, getting a wife could be even more of a problem.

No a partner who loves to Iron. My best friend loves to iron I don't know why I don't care but shirts are impeccable sorry they are not in the state of Florida. There is something about a crisp starched well ironed shirt that looks far better than any perm press you can buy

The problem should be looked at from a different angle. It looks like Bill just needs another $12.50 in his budget to get the shirts ironed. I'll bet I can trim an extra $12.50 out of your budget.
What do you spend on food? telecommunications? entertainment?

Seriously? Nobody is going to iron your shirts for a dollar and a quarter. It would take at least 10 to 15 minutes to do one shirt........

And I think you are "looking for love in all the wrong places" if a willingness to iron your shirts is on your list. Yes. There are those who like to iron. I guess it could be therapeutic because ironing is one of those things where you can see almost immediately that you have accomplished something.......

Confession: I understand therapy-ironing because I really like to do laundry. My laundry cabinet could rival some people's wine cellars for variety and pairing choices. And except for the Woolite, it is all P&G. (That's the law where I come from.) -- Been liking to do laundry for years. I think it started as therapy in disguise because I was in that "You never know how far your influence can reach" profession.....but I digress......

And. NO. I will not do your laundry.

But if I may treat this as a teachable moment.......

Bill, try this. -- Go to llbean.com and pick out a shirt. Just one. Read the descriptions. Read the reviews -- but not all of them because you will be there all day. If you have questions, you can call them and they will hold your hand -- sometimes with a wonderful Maine accent.

I have been buying Mr. Boomer's shirts from L. L. Bean for decades. And every now and then, l order from Lands' End. I must warn though that sometimes companies change suppliers and not for the better so I can't guarantee the current quality. But Bean still has that "Guaranteed Period" thing I think so what have you got to lose. Order a shirt.

And when you do your own laundry, don't forget to pre-treat the collar and cuffs.

So anyway, I hope my advice finds you of good Cheer and will Tide you over until you find the woman of your dreams.
