Big Butt Trail | Asheville, NC's Official Travel Site (http://www.exploreasheville.com/stories/post/big-butt-trail/)

I have been reading Bill Bryson's A Walk in the Woods and have come to the part of the snowstorm near Big Butt Mountain. He writes of a very narrow ledge with an 80 foot drop off 72-73 (Broadway Books, paperback, 1999). https://books.google.com/books?id=WnyDgV_vNhsC&pg=PT86&lpg=PT86&dq=a+walk+in+the+wood+big+butt+mountain&source=bl&ots=st7oa-dn6r&sig=jCtN_lwZjPFDN9ZURzxG467h-Sk&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi-mJyckbbKAhVIOSYKHQzkDlQQ6AEIKDAC#v=onepage&q=a%20walk%20in%20the%20wood%20big%20butt%20mounta in&f=false

I cannot find any descriptions of this on the Internet of travelers on the Big Butt Trail.

Any walkers of the Appalachian Trail? This looks like something that he might have made up as I have trouble believing that someone would put a trail through an area that would be so dangerous???

I also wanted to start a thread with this title. The 12 year old in me does still come out to play once in a while.

Someone probably meant to write Butte when they filled in the naming papers.
