Macy's started out as a little dry good store 150 years ago today.

One of my fondest memories of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was when I was able to arrange for a lady I knew and her two children and my own daughter to be in the parade as clowns. My co-worker's wife was an Exec with Macy's and was kind enough to get them an invitation to participate. They had to arrive at 4:30am in order to be outfitted in clown suits and have their makeup applied. During the parade they would circulate from side to side greeting the observers on the sidewalks along the route of the parade. Lucky me ... I had to work that day.

They speak of it with excitement even today and that was about 25 years ago.

I had always wanted to go to the Macys Thanksgiving Parade, so we did exactly that before moving here. It was a childhood dream come true that I will always remember and appreciate!!!!

The Empire State Building was lit red last night in tribute to Macy's. Can't wait for the Christmas windows.

JoJo, how lucky you were in NY to see that. I love the Empire State building and all the beautiful Art Deco buildings in Manhattan. Wish I was there with you.

Tkret, I think working at Macy's is a very healthy thing to do..... 2 of my aunts worked there from the 30's and one lived to be 94 and the other is still alive at 101!!! Must be something in the air in Herald Square, let's all go visit and sniff it..... maybe its the perfume sprayer they spray as you walk through the front doors? Who Knows!!??
