State Rep. Marlene O’Toole, R-The Villages, joined with 72 House members to pass a franking bill Wednesday in Tallahassee.

The bill HB 191 will regulate hydraulic franking in the Sunshine State."

It looks like they must have caught it, CW. It seems like proofreading the old-fashioned way has gone by the wayside. Sure can't trust spellcheck and autocorrect to be our friends.............

Frankly, even though I am not a geologist, I cannot imagine how anyone could ever agree to or want to frack Florida........although sometimes I do feel like I am living in a Carl Hiaasen novel.

I hope this works better than the permitting of pumping water from the aquifer.

Whom is she representing? The owners in this area or big oil? Ask Oklahomans how much they like the earthquakes out there. Let's see, we are built on top of ancient coral reefs (limestone), already subject to sudden sink holes and now we're think it's a great idea to let water companies take millions of gallons of water out from under us and then we want to frack the limestone too. What could possibly go wrong?!

Elected government officials always represent their constituents.
Always. Not always. Sometimes. When convenient. Never.

Did anyone read the bill?:

It's not a bad bill.Seems like we don't have protection from fracking now.

I detest conversations about fracking, climate change, abortion sexual preferences, race etc because they are all very emotional, quite divisive and suffer myopia by adherents. meaning they will never be settled. Reasonable minds can come to agreement but these are not reasonable times

i also hate self appointed English teachers. So I misuse or misspell a word once in a while so what my mind and body are not what it once was. At this age I'll do as I please and that goes for golf too. Sometimes when playing an executive course I just give myself an 18. I deserve I and it hurts no one:)

We're killing the planet by breathing and farting. If only all the people would die off, the planet would be saved.

Now I am really confused! I just read an online article the other day that claimed smelling farts helped prevent cancer. Surely they could not post this information online if it were not true. Right?

Not correctly interpreted. The state already has regulations and laws regarding the oil and gas industry. There already are agencies monitoring wells and evaluating future exploration. At the present time not only does the state have a say in what drilling and fracking occurs in your neighborhood, so does your municipality. The present rules require that the oil company comply with both state and local regulations. If the city of Ocala does not want oil wells or fracking drilling within its city it may under current law prohibit such activity. This bill with the support of the usual drill baby drill crowd removes the ability of localities to regulate and places all decision making in the hands of the state. It further allows the state to issue a single permit to allow multiple wells and fracking sites whereas in the past each required their own permit.

The statement that this was unregulated is simply untrue. This bill is an attempt to remove local control and is a reaction to several cities having passed anti-fracking laws recently

As to this specific Florida bill, here is an analysis of its effects written by the GOP controlled House: http://static.lobbytools.com/bills/2016/pdf/AH0191E1634.pdf
and this from the Florida Senate

Both will inform you what the current law provides and what changes the bill supported by OToole makes in the current law. But to suggest that oil and gas is not regulated now is simply wrong.

Here is the list of localities in Florida that have already passed anti-Fracking or other oil and gas industry resolutions. These local concerns will be no longer any concern of Exxon and Shell if O'Toole's vote succeeds

I know what it is....I question whether the online news knows.

I think I am beginning to question the motives of the "on line" news. Just a few minutes ago they posted another set of bad parking photos. And their caption was How Villagers are ready to bend the rules. Not a few or some, but villagers. What a cheap piece of crap reporting with pictures of cars and golf carts, with NO way of knowing who they belong to, villagers, visitors, renters, etc.
They seem to have a bit of disdain for those of us who call The Villages home. And they are taking yet another shot at the integrity of residents here.
Shame on them at the on line news site. Maybe they should not be getting the support they do from residents.

I think the coverage of The Villages in the online newspaper is fair.
I don't feel that posting a set of bad parking photos is "taking a shot at the integrity of residents". I actually find them funny.

I think they're funny too. I'm a member of the Smart Car club and at just about every meeting we are reminded that we can't park in the golf cart spots.
I think they're fair minded and the next 3 pieces after the 25 parking photos is about: Villagers’ talent shines in ‘Cabaret’ to benefit Villages hospital auxiliary
Texas Roadhouse staffing up ahead of anticipated opening in mid-March
Villager hopes fellow residents will come out and strut their mutts for humane society

I think the paper is kind of homey but does not shy away from telling you who got busted and what they look like. I see the same paper and see a lot to be proud about living here.

I enjoy the on-line newspaper. The photos of the inept/rude/thoughtless parking are hysterical! I wish they would get better shots of the license plates or publish the names of the scofflaws.
