We recently had visitors here from Minnesota and took them to all the Towncenter...but ended in Spanish Springs. Drizzling a bit but sat under the umbrellas for a while chatting and enjoying talking to others. Decided to eat dinner at Margerita Republic as it was nearby. We were seated and ordered. before everyone was done eating the waiter presented our bill. The guys paid while the ladies finished their meal. When he returned with our change he said, "You will have to leave now, it is Trivia night and people are waiting for a table. We had been there approximately 45 minutes. When I told him we were not told when we were seated that it was Trivia Night and that we would have to rush through our meal, his reply was that those waiting would soon be over to stand next to our table to "encourage" us to leave. Our guests were put off as you can imagine. What a great way to show them the Villages - Friendly Hometown. Guess I won't be eating there again. Shame they had to be so rude.

Really too bad that they treated you that way. I would hope that the manager sees this and reprimands the waiter that did this. Very , very rude!

And is it less rude or more rude than a "trivia" player lording over your table to "encourage" you to leave? I'd ask him (politely), as a trivia buff, if he knew the average time of unconsciousness after a knockout punch?

You might have asked for your tip back. But who thinks of these things in the heat of the moment.
And like GE and bagboy said I hate trivia bullies too. There all over the place down here. And those bingo ladies think they're so tough.

That's hilarious (and exactly my thoughts).

I don't know. Perhaps a field experiment---knock out 10 trivia bullies when they stand over your table and time it:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

I would still be sitting there watching their game. They need a sign, or should have informed you when you were seated.

I think I would be tempted to sit there, participate, and beat them at their own game.

Hi gardendiva: This episode must have been extremely traumatic for your guests who hail from the "Minnesota Nice" state. Why people are so nice there they refrain from using four way stops. No please you go first No please
As to the average time for a meal, I recall reading that in New York City one restaurant utilized a sand hour glass and once served when the sand ran out you too better have been running out and the sand wasn't set for an hour.
But that's those guys in New York City for you:)
As for this restaurant that is just plain lunacy and one way to close down a business quickly. By the way I am terrible at trivia

The rude ones were the OP and party, making a big deal about a pretty minor slip up. ... Perhaps Margarita erred in seating them close to Trivia time, or maybe the OP took a little longer than planned - but signs are always posted in front on Trivia nights because nearly all the tables have been reserved in advance.
But still - a poster encourages a FIST FIGHT over this? And several others agrees that a brawl is a great idea? What a boneheaded idea.
How about squatting at the table the 'rest of the evening'. Whats the matter with you?
No wonder there is so much trouble at Spanish Springs with brawls and fights at the square with people like you all around.
And it certainly is good business to support regular weekly customers by honoring their RESERVATION
Feel free to RESERVE a table and lets just see how you do at "beating us at our own game".

It's not us. It's the trivial pursuitors that are always starting trouble. It happens every year during the Jeopardy Sweep Week. They get all pumped up.
