Has anyone received a refund yet on the gift cards they purchased from Athens? The last time I inquired I was told they were waiting until all the requests came in. It has been over 2 months since they closed.

That is a very nebulous answer since nobody, including Athens, know how many are out there. Most businesses do not track individual gift certs; usually total outstanding dollar amount.
There is no good reason that they would not issue case by case refunds for vaild refunds.....if it is stated somewhere they would do so. Many businesses have not.
You have waited a more than reasonable time. The longer it drags out the less likely to get any refund.

Chris(topher) and Amber Kitrinos live in Sorrento, FL.
Look them up on the white pages and give them a call (when their other restaurants are closed - evenings).
He might be at Flapjack Johnny's in Groveland (352-557-4845) before 2:30 PM daily.
He's an honest guy. Let us know.

I agree. No reason to not issue an immediate refund. This is the consumers money in the hands of a merchant.

I have sent two separate requests and have yet to get a response. I guess I will have to write it off as a lose.

I just received a response to another email I sent to Athens. They said that the refunds started going out last Thursday and they would check on mine. I won't hold my breath.

Maybe they want to hold onto the money as long as possible hoping people will give up.

That would be my guess. What makes me mad about this is we bought the card 2 weeks before they closed. You can't tell me that they didn't know they would be closing.

We tried calling the phone number for Athens yesterday and it was no longer in service. It had been working in the past, but no refund after lots of nebulous promises. Guess we lost that refund.

Write it off on your 2015 Schedule B as a theft. Pennies on the dollar is better than nothing.

I know Chris and his reputation has never been in question. It would be beneficial if Chris had an opportunity to respond before he is misjudged
On the other hand I do understand ex-customers concerns as to the ignore stall. God knows we get too much of that from Washington, DC

Can you use the gift cards at their other restaurants? Maybe you should find out where they are and take a ride. One of you mentioned Groveland, which isn't very far. Inconvenient, yes, but better than just taking a loss on them.

I posted that question on their facebook page. The response was that the comment needed to be reviewed by their facebook administrator and that never occurred.

Maybe the 2 brothers who run Red Sauce and Johnny Rockets will honor your gift cards when they open a new Greek restaurant there.

Yup, David and Jack just might extend that good will to their new endeavor.

There are a lot of creditors in line before they get to gift cards.

The announcement of new owners for the Athens site sure blows a hole in the theory the developer wanted the location for something other than a restaurant Has money been refunded yet for outstanding gift cards?

I received this email on February 4, 2016 but haven't received any $$$ yet.
Good Morning,
First and foremost we wanted to take a minute and say thank you once again on behalf of Athens NY Restaurant for all of your support throughout the years. We finally received back the gift card refund report from the gift card company. There were over 400 gift cards to be processed. That was the reasoning behind the delay. The refunds have started to be mailed out with the amount that was purchased minus the incentive. They will be coming in a form of a money order so if there are any issues we have the money order information to look up. We want to thank you for your patience.
Any questions please let us know.
Thank you.

Yes but who is the owner? And/or we do not know what disagreement Athens had with the landlord nor what agreement the new owner has.
We do know Athens did a good business but was it enough to meet expenses and make a reasonable profit?? We know Athens message left meaning in between the lines that it regretted leaving. but why? Nor do we know if the original plans the landlord had, had fallen through?
There is little question TVLSI is aggressive the question pivots on one's interpretation or definition of what aggressive means? And again we find there are three tribes in The Villages

Did you purchase the gift cards on a credit card? If you did you may want to try filing a dispute with the credit card. If they have other restaurants that take your credit card they will be forced to respond to dspute claim. I would try it. What do you have to lose. Usually the credit card refunds your money until the business makes good reason as to why you are out your money. That's what I would do. Of course if you bought gift cards with cash or check you are at the mercy of the vender.

After several phone calls and 6 emails to Athens, I was promised Feb 4th that I would be receiving a money order for the amount left on my gift card which I feel was significant. They have many excuses...over 400 cards to process. They card company was slow in telling us how much money was due each card etc. They don't seem to return calls when they say they will either. Let's get about 100 people to go to Flap Jack Johnny's and order a lot of food. When we get the bill, use our gift cards. That's one way to get some of our money back.
