View Full Version : Obama the Messiah?

I just do not understand why so many people (on TOTV and all over the web) are referring to Obama as a messiah...or the messiah. Personally I think it is sacreligious as I consider myself a christian. This is my opinion.

I understand that we are ready for change....and that both parties are promising change. But honestly this is too much!

Farakhan(not that I listen to him much) has so much as called him this....Chris Mathews has referred to it being "The New Testament"....

I know there are many others....

I am a democrat and I believe in Obama...more than McCain...with all Obama's flaws...he is still my choice....however I do not see him as The Messiah....

as a christian I believe we have already had that...and there is only one.....

as a voter....I just have hope that things will change with Obama in office....I do not see him as a Miracle worker....a savior....just a passionate man who wants the best for his country and works hard to do it....same as McCain.....just going about it differently....

Can anyone explain why it is necessary to use this reference?

I know this will get heated....but it is something that needed to be brought up....

I wonder if in part it comes from some jealousy at his garnering large turnouts at his appearances, in the neighborhood of 100,000 or more, while McCain was lucky to get maybe 2,000. That's when they started with the Obamania slogan, and maybe it metamorphosed into "The Messiah", of course meant in an insulting way.

turn out does not a messiah make.
I find it alarming to find his name and the word messiah in the same sentence.
Do your home work and see what and who past messiahs were.

Barrack Hussiegn Obama a messiah :1rotfl::1rotfl:

If BS was music this would be a brass band....:1rotfl:

BTK....I think that we are all in agreement that Senator Obama should not be referred to as the Messiah....that was the point of this thread. I don't think anyone on here is "trying to kid themselves" at all. We do not like the term in reference to anyone. Perhaps my original post was not clear enough or confusing...so if that is the case I apologize.

The term is not appropriate any way it is used. This is probably the one
area that we agree upon. Please re-read my post and see that we, even as supporters of Obama, do not like the term....and I would imagine that Senator Obama does not either.

Yes, we are in agreement. I personally wouldn't call anyone a messiah.

I also agree BTK, except that the reference was meant sarcastically and I don't think it is particularly funny.

From Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan...

"Addressing a large crowd behind a podium Feb. 24 with a Nation of Islam Saviour's Day 2008 sign, Farrakhan proclaims,

"You are the instruments that God is going to use to bring about universal change, and that is why Barack has captured the youth. And he has involved young people in a political process that they didn't care anything about. That's a sign. When the Messiah speaks, the youth will hear, and the Messiah is absolutely speaking."

From Sen Obama himself

From Sen Obama

We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."

The rest of them just go on and on...POINT IS HIS FOLLOWERS FEEL THIS WAY....I cannot see this as being something bad or sarcastic about him. I cannot even say his full name without ridicule and racist comments being thrown at me, yet we can ridicule Sen McCain as McBush or whatever the word of the day is or ridicule his wife and other associated things. Sen Obama does not answer questions about his not keeping his word on campaign financing...he changes his tune on military depending on whom he is speaking to and get away with it.

Sorry, if you feel I am being unfair by calling him what his followers call him I will stand guilty as charged. I do not consider him a messiah...I DO question his lies and you can defend him all you want and critque me all you want but these are not comments I have made up. There is even a MESSIAHOBAMA website set up and THEY TAKE DONATIONS by the way !!!!

Am I bitter....you bet. Not because of the political party...Not because I am a big fan of Sen McCain....simply because ANYTHING BAD ABOUT THIS Sen Obama is considered racism or hate..he needs to answer to nobody !

Sorry I posted a lot of stuff but on the assumption that your question was aimed at me.......

To your question....
It is not necessary...it began and has been fostered by the Sen Obama camp....THAT is the origin...THAT is where it started and thrives and perhaps you should question them on why they continue the usage of it. As I said in my original response there is even a website which takes MONEY !

Bucco...thank you for that post. It is much appreciated...and I can see where you might be upset. I just "hear" these things differently I guess....I hear people extremely excited about a young man, with clear ideas for our country, who loves our country, who brings out the best in people....giving them hope about our future! This is what the country needs right now. We need to be renewed....to be given that ray of light through the dark tunnel....to be given hope that this war may be over soon....this senseless war! I hear people crying out to God for help during this hopeless time....many people do feel that Obama is touched by God....there are many people in this world that are. I don't know what I believe....but if that thought gives them hope....gives them the will to get up and get moving....gives them hope that life will be good once more....then by all means....let them believe what ever they want!!

I do think that people get upset when someone says Barack Husein Obama. It is just someone (in my opinion) trying to put some sort of muslim slant on him. The truth is some people may be scared about his name....after 9/11 I can understand that. However, some of us understand that he had a muslim father, who gave him a muslim name. It is his name. Why would you bother stating his middle name if you weren't trying to "scare" people with his muslim affliation?

We don't go around talking about John ____ McCain....in fact I don't even know his middle name....as it should not be important.

I think that all too often (and I am just as guilty) we bring in the details that really should not matter...like his middle name....like his religious beliefs....like the things we have said about Palin's family....I know I have been just as guilty.

The bottom line is that I think some of the quotes you gave may have been taken out of context...or misrepresented. This is MY opinion. You have yours. This is what our world is made of. God love you Bucco for being so passionate about your beliefs....I love to hear what you say....because it really makes me think about why I usually disagree....and I hope I do the same for you.

I would imagine you would find some folks in the Red states that truly believe that God is on their side....McCain's side....and that side alone. If that is what makes someone passionate about their government....well then God Bless the USA.....(no offense to those who don't believe JMO)

No matter who wins....we had all better pray....send good thoughts....meditate....whatever....that our country survives and starts thriving again!!

I am only going to say one thing or maybe two :) in response. I know I am known on here as the crazy guy who overreacts.

Well, I read Sal Alinsky in detail....I read BOTH of Sen Obama's book and thousands of articles on him BEFORE he was a candidate in my effort to try and support him actually.

My conclusion is that he is following Sal Alinsky to the ultimate degree and it is working because NOBODY CARES ABOUT WHO THIS GUY IS..only about the silver words that flow out of his mouth.

Cassie...I pray I am wrong....I am daggone sure I am not, but I still hope I am wrong and after election day my criticism of him will cease if he is elected..he will be my President as well as yours and I respect that, but I will be back to call attention to what he is doing.

I am sorry for offending people.....Sen Obama is not a messiah..he should rebuke those who say it and have them take down a website that promotes it and takes money for his campaign.

Ok/./...had enough of me....obviously I am in the minority on this and as I said..hope I am wrong !

Bucco, you do us proud..those of us who feel as you do. i agree with cassie of course that the label of messiah is ridiculous but it was taken from the dubious farrakahn as you mentioned, and since the media refuses to say anything about BHO which could cause voters to rethink their adoration of him, it seems appropriate in a sarcastic way. i do not believe he stands for all the hope and light he so eloquently likes to speak about. it frightens me that he HAS captured the adulation of our youth (weren't we all young and gullible once?) and if we are not careful our way of life will be destroyed from within....i agree with cassie that we must all pray very hard for our country.

Cha....the thing is that my point was that Farrakan is not a good example of the typical Democrat....or the typical American that is voting for Obama....as there are many Republicans that are voting for him.....

I honestly do not believe that Obama thinks of himself as "the messiah"....he is just passionate about America....about the people who live here....

My last thought on this topic is that we apparently have TWO choices....and I seem to think that most people are tired of Bush....tired of debt and war! Most people want change....and if one person can bring that hope of change out in people...well then God Bless him....not as the Messiah....just as a human being loving his country and working his BUT..T off to offer them hope...reminds me of Clinton's hope....we did well with his hope....we need that back....

OMG....I compared Obama with Clinton....well hopefully he will run the country just as well....but be better at his personal life!! LOL

Bucco is a great debater....I love him for getting me excited about this country and politics!!! I owe him a beer and pizza....no matter who wins!!

Why don't you give it a rest. I am so tired of hearing about all the things you all conger up about Obama. Tell me something constructive that the McCain-Palin duo is going to do to pull this country back up and out of the mess Bush II and the conservative right has gotten us into. So far all I've heard from McCain and the rest of his surrogates, is the vial lies about Obama. I can only deduct from that, is that he or his right conservative drivel has anything constructive to say.

I have to stay out of this political thread, it's pretty much non-sense.

Bucco...

If only those enamored with Obama would take the time to actually read Alinsky, Ayers, Wright, etc.. perhaps they would be alarmed as well.

His campaign reads like a playbook.

Change for change sake is not always wise. Sometimes the devil you know is better than the devil you don't know.

The current administration has played right into the hands of those who would be Marxist with the all the legislation recently passed in the name of Homeland Security...the Patriot Act, etc.. Everything is all set and ready to go for the "right" person to take over in every sense of the word.

Finally someone who understands. I had been, its too late now, imploring people to READ READ....Sen Obama is following the playbook by the page and you are correct it was all set up by the last at least 4 years.

If folks had read what the marxist game plan IN WRITING is all about and how Sen Obama trained in it and has been steeped in it, they would recognize ALL the factors involved.

There are criticisms on her about the planning of a McCain rally with the plumber guy, but no mention of almost a million dollars spent on lighting by Sen Obama in Europe. It is almost, as Alinsky said in other words, we have them blinded !!!!

READ READ READ....that is the answer...READ READ READ...about each candidate NOT FROM THEIR WEBSITE...NOT FROM BIASED SOURCES. Read about their background, their training, their experience ! READ READ READ.

The campaign promises are just words....READ about the MEN so that you know what to expect !

WOW, that was a pretty foul and low down comment inferring many things I dare not mention! :cus: barf

I am a hard working, contributing member of this society. As a matter of fact I don't know of too many people supporting Obama who aren't except for some retirees and school kids. I notice the same demographics in the McCain supporters.
