We were at the Home and Garden show yesterday and a lot of people seemed to think we were affiliated with the "Villages". Just wanted to clear this up for everyone, we are not part of the "Villages" we are here for the Great People of the villages. Thank you all so much for you support yesterday!!
I wish I would have named my business Villagers Home Professionals

We would have had you quote on a re-model job, but honestly we were put off by the name of your company, so gave you a pass.
I would strongly suggest that you consider changing the company name.

Why would the name put you off from contacting them?

Thanks for the advise. We had no idea when we built this business that people would be put off by the name. We are a family run business that has 25 years experience. We take pride in all our work. We will be considering options for name change

Would you consider your business to be successful at this point?
Most likely answer is yes.
Acknowledge opinions offerred but do not make changes based on what most likely is a minority view of the situation.
The majority is on your side.
The above does not intend to down play a minority opinion but to simply state that it is!

For now we are going to stand by our name. Our customer service and experience should be what we are rated on, not whether the word Villages is in our name. Thank you to all that took the time to discuss the issue!

Florida Pest Control isn't associated with the state? Ocala Transmission isn't associated with the city government?

when you don't ask a question? And if you read it as though it were a question it sounds foolish.

I know some businesses that have "The Villages" in their names have had to change their names, because "The Villages" does not want any confusion.
"Villages AV" is one example of that. Tom had to change the name after receiving a legal notice from "The Villages".

I am STILL puzzled by the poster who felt negative about your name because he thought you were associated with The Villages.
I think The Villages conduct themselves very well and are ethical business people as you appear to be, OP.

13 hours and no answer from 600th Photo Sq. I would disregard their post....just stirring the pot I assume. Also, only 34 posts so they have a lot to experience and learn. Keep your name and your service at the level it seems to be.....you seem to be doing the right things.

Villages Home Pro. First, your company name can be easily confused with being associated with The villages. Secondly it doesn't matter to me why you chose to utilize "villages" in your name but I can venture two possibilities.
Third, utilizing "villages"name can cut as much as it kicks. Fourth names matter whether its people or businesses one way or another.
Finally, in my humble view if it says "villages" my reaction is it is going to cost me more

Well, I've come to the conclusion that I can't please everyone with the business name I chose. What I can do is provide the customers who do choose our business with fair pricing and quality workmanship. My company name was simply chosen due to the fact I wanted to focus my market at the villages, not try to become The Villages.

Plain and simple. I figured it would have cost me more a lot more. I am not in the habit of wasting an individuals time. For example I had a quote that was double the amount from a contractor quoted for the job. Turns out talking with the individual that the company he represents happens to be one of the main contractors that the Villages relies on.
Look the guy asked for opinions I gave him mine. I did consider him along with 5 others, narrowed it down to 3 end of story. Some have questioned my reason why I was put off by the name. It is no different than trying a product or company because of a name. I stick with my original response, keep in mind that the owner did ask for opinions. Rather than offering an opinion without being asked. I am not going to carry on an endless debate on this rather trivial subject.

V H P.................I think your name was a great strategic move. Look at all the awareness and advertising you are receiving on ToTV.
Oh wait, there is a poster on ToTV (Talk of The VILLAGES) that doesn't think having "Villages" in a company name is wise and "strongly" encourages a change........Hmmmm.
Congrats!!

So why start this thread? My guess is for the same reason you put the word "villages" in your name. Won't keep me from using you. Just saying.

I don't think the thread would have been started in the first place if it wasn't a concern. And 600th hit the nail on the head. Business owned by the villages are typically more expensive. From mortgage rates to golf carts. Some people don't like to waste money.
And some just like to bash and name call on a message board because they don't agree.

Or the thread was started to get the name in lights. Bad press is better than no press at all.

I picked the name because I wanted to transition from working all throughout central Florida to the villages exclusively. I honestly wasn't trying to attach myself to the villages by any means, just thought of it as a Professional service at the villages. I started the thread just to get an outsiders view looking in. Once again, thank you all for the input. You have given me a lot of food for thought!

:grumpy: Why do some people on TOTV have "Love", "Happy", and other words in their name here?
 To the OP, if you ever need a new CEO.... you now know where to look.

This I can tell you from dealing in the construction business around The Villages.
If you have Villages in the name, most will assume that you or your company are part of The Villages or one of the main contractors they use.
Lots of people have the thought that if you are a main contractor or supplier to The Villages, that the price is jacked up and will cost a lot more if you had contacted a smaller Contractor. Has nothing to do with The Villages or the Morse's conducting business smartly or otherwise. It is just a fact.
The OP was simply just trying to clarify what they might have been told at the Garden Show. I would also think the same if I did not know better. No fault in stating the obvious.
This is just a simple thread, no need to blow it up.

I believe that, yes, you are obviously affiliated or associated; however, you are not owned by The Villages, right?
I think it's wonderful to be affiliated with The Villages! What is sad is that SO many, and way too often, speak poorly of anything "The Villages" related, even though they enjoy so many of its perks, too! SMH!
Don't change who you or your business is, or even its name, to satisfy the naysayers!
