I had a large doll family, mostly baby dolls, a carriage, a bed and lots of doll clothes made by my grandmother. My favorite was a child with no real hair but I can't remember if she had a name, like Betsy Wetsy. One of them did take a bottle and wet her pants. Imagine that being all a doll did in this day and age!!!

Most vivid in my memory was a Tiny Tears doll, with short dark curly hair and a highchair. The above link lists dolls of the '50's, enjoy.

My favorite dolls were Tiny Tears, a Ballerina doll, and a Tammy doll. Does anyone remember the movie 'Tammy' with Debbie Reynolds? That was the doll. But when Barbie came along, she blew them all right out of the water! :laugh:

I wasn't much for dolls as a kid. However, my mother insisted I have them. My favorite one was a Miss Kitty doll. She looked like Amanda Blake, who played Miss Kitty on Gunsmoke. She wore a saloon girl dress in teal, was about 2 feet tall. Poor dear was always getting shot at so that Sheriff Dillon (me) could rescue her.

Tiny Tears was my favorite also....however; I think I love my bike, which I named Nelly Bell, better than my doll. I guess I was a Tom Boy, but I always had an invisible tiara on my head. Now that tiara is under my motorcycle helmut. :1rotfl:

Does anyone remember Big Boy Dolls? They were huge, and I wanted one so badly. I got one for Christmas (in Canada) and he was so beautiful. I ran to my girlfriend's house to show her my new prize. I slipped on the ice and cracked his head open.

I've just never felt the same about Big Boys since that Christmas. :icon_wink:

Even tho I was a poor girl living in The Projects in Easy NY Brooklyn, I remember having a little doll buggy and a doll (can't remember what kind) and I remember playing with them -- must have been in the 40s.

I didn't have a LOT of toys; there was a record player and some favorite records, a radio that I listened to "Let's Pretend" on Saturday mornings; then in my early teens I also had a bicycle. I never thought of how my parents could or could not afford those items for me :ohdear: THANKS Mom & Dad !

The only doll I remember having as a kid was my Raggedy Ann doll. My grandmother gave us each a doll when we were sick with the mumps. My brother got a GI Joe, and my sisters and I got Raggedy Ann dolls. My mother would put us all together in the same room when one of us came down with any kind of childhood disease, so that we would all get it at the same time. Can you imagine dealing with 5 kids with the mumps at the same time? Was she insane? She did the same thing when we had the chicken pox! She was nuts!

My Ginny doll was my favorite. All those clothes and she had a little trunk to keep them in. She had red hair.

I did not realize that Madam Alexander made Ginny dolls.

My daughter Boomette had a lot of Madam Alexander dolls. Storybook characters and a bride and Scarlett O'Hara. We had recently moved and the dolls were still packed in a box in our basement. I came home from work one day only to find that our dog had torn open the box and had absolutely massacred all those dolls. There were arms and legs and heads flung everywhere. It was awful. An ugly scene indeed. Even Scarlett did not survive.

I also remember my paper dolls. The movie star ones. There were always two that came in the book for a quarter I think it was. Both were supposed to be the movie star, but one of them always looked the most like Grace Kelly or whoever it was. And that was the one that always had the most glamorous clothes, too. My cousin came over to play paper dolls almost every Saturday. She's an only child so she did not understand gutter fighting. I always made her play with the paper doll who did not look like the movie star. You know, she still brings that up in conversation. She really needs to get over it, I think.

My cousin got a Revlon doll for Christmas.
I was jealous, Santa brought me a My Fair Lady doll, not quite the same, didn't appreciate Eliza Doolittle at the time.
I remember Betsy Wetsey & Tiny Tears, they both wet their pants!
Used to tuck all my dolls in bed every night before I went to bed. Do little girls even play with dolls anymore?

One Christmas I received a doll that my mother had made up for me. She went to a doll factory and chose the head, arms and legs. The body was soft. I don't know why she went to a doll factory, but know it was during the war. One time my brother "operated" on her and took out her appendix. We sewed her up with needle and thread.

Another time, I received twin dolls and a beautiful set of clothes that one of the women at the church had sewn.

I let my daughters play with them, and they destroyed them.

I had a betsy wetsy too!!! Forgot all about her! I have a crate here with about 6 1st year cabbage patch dolls of my daughters. I see her often. I keep reminding her of them. The dolls are still here. Why did I save these??!! :cus:
