View Full Version : 10 Reasons We are Not in The Villages ...

1. To experience the coldest Valentine’s Day in history – 0 degree in NYC this morning with an Arctic air mass wind chill factor making it feel like 20 below with 40 mph winds thrown in just for fun.
2. To enjoy shoveling the near record-breaking 30 inches of snow a couple of weeks ago
3. To benefit by toughening up (since New Yorkers need more of that) by losing heat on the day the Mayor closed the roads to all traffic due to the snow emergency thus making it impossible for the repair person from getting to us for over 36 hours.
4. To learn more than we ever wanted to or will ever need to know about various pre-closing issues – including major mistakes by teeny weeny banks like JP Morgan Chase and Bank of America -- delaying the sale of our home here in Brooklyn – this item deserves its own post!
5. To feel the joy of losing 3 months income (so far) on the rental apartment and 3 garages that we rent out in our home due to buyer’s demand that the house be delivered vacant at closing.
6. To know the pleasure of paying rent on an apartment we have NOT yet occupied while still paying our current mortgage. Silly us – thinking we would close on the sale within 3-4 months! The management at The Quarters in Lady Lake has declared us the ultimate “perfect tenants” – role models to our neighbors!
7. To avoid depriving Uncle Sam of taxes. According to our accountant had we closed on the sale in 2015 we would have saved about $5000 in taxes – which we will not be entitled to with a 2016 closing date. I didn’t ask for details because it’s now moot.
8. To get to know the Villages Sales Rep during his monthly update phone calls – he now seems like family.
9. To renew our local Costco membership despite the fact that the closer box store to The Villages would be Sam’s Club
10. To practice gratification delay – not to mention forestalling the celebratory hangover we are planning on when we finally do get there.
Are there any volunteer designated drivers who can help us out?

Oh Oh can I buy you a pizza:D Remember what you lose in January you gain in June. There was frost on the ground here again this morning
I lived in the Minneapolis area for a number of years and the temperatures often dropped to below 0 but it was a dry cold
I make it a point to tell my daughter who lives in Mount Kisco the same thing
Personal Best regards:

Well then...there you have it!! You didn't mention if they were "good" reasons or "bad"....but given the 10 I would guess it would be the former!!

BK001, we feel your pain. Had a deal die several months back because of an appraisal and the beauty of dealing with BOA. We are practicing gratification also. I just keep thinking about the day we are free of the bondage of NJ and heading South on the NJTP. We will all have our day.

OP, please let us know when you are on your way, so we can all celebrate. Really hope this all gets cleared up soon.
We were fortunate enough to be able to move to TV and sell house back up North by remote control, still was a hassle, but after about a 2 week delay (long story), house was sold.

Sorry you have so many reasons to be kept from so much fun.... The ONLY reason I have for not being in TV is for an operation on Wednesday. I am lucky and will be back in a few weeks.

My wife and I are counting down the days to our retirements and ability to move down to TV and into the house we bought late last spring. We figure it's almost exactly a year (stock market willing and the creek don't rise), so we've got the rest of this winter, one more fall to rake leaves and half of another winter to go. In the meantime we keep looking for videos on TV on YouTube and counting the days...
All of you good folks (and soon to be neighbors) down there, don't use up all the good times yet, y'hear? Leave some for us!

BK001:
I practice delayed gratification for 6 plus years. LOL All I can say, it's all worth it.
You sound like a fun couple who are retaining your sense of humor. You will fit right in with TV.
Best wishes when you start living the dream.
