Am I the only person that thinks that some TOTV'ers may have different screen names in order to support their views on here?

JanfromJersey

It happens on our local Glassboro board frequently. It's not hard to spot on our local board because there is one person who always downs another specific person and uses the same words repeatedly.

I have a couple of screen names here because I forget my password, and don't have the patience to wait for a new one.

My names are NJGranny, NJGreatgrann and JanfromJersey.

Ohhhhhh, Jan,

That is a no-no to have more than one. Pick the one you want, send it to me in a PM along with the password you want. I will set the password then make sure you can get in.

Then I'm afraid I will have to delete the other two.

Tsk, tsk, tsk, Jan.

GG..... as I've mentioned before, I like to hang out at a couple of other public forums and what you describe is very common . I don't understand why they do it, but if its purpose is to deceive people who are unaware... then IMHO that is dishonest and wrong :ohdear:

As for moi..... I Yam what I Yam.... here and elsewhere on the www :icon_wink:

Oh please don't tell me that C***** has multiple userids. In the last several months, I'd begun to think of TOTV as her private blog anyway.

OTOH, I can almost understand some using multiple IDs/personalities. Occasionally you want to have an intelligent discussion on a subject and realize the only one who could do justice in defending the other view is yourself. So you have a quandary. See many of B3's posts for example.

I agree with CIB and yet people have accused me of being at least 4 others.!! Attacks on others that people thought were me.
My husband had tried to log on with my computer and got banned because of the same address. That was a long time ago. We have had nothing but problems since with my computer. Tony has spent hours trying to get me back on......
I hope when I finally get to the Villages this will clear up. Obviously I have no real knowledge of computers. Others have tried to help too.

So GG--I have always had just one identity!!!!!!( and many computer problems.)
I don't really spent much time on here. My life is flying by with months missing while I am recovering. I don't know why I am on here now. ??? Goodnight!

I have been Brightspot for 8 years and no matter what forum, chatroom, or game room you go to, if I am a member I will be Brightspot there. The only difference will be the 01 or 0101 that follows my name.

I'm proud of who I am and have no intentions of ever using a different nic in order to appear as someone else.

rokinronda since 1996 when I joined Gamesville online. I used to have AOL internet service years ago and when I cancelled I lost rokinronda. I contacted them and fixed it so I could still have my email and IM. Slight variations if name is not available is ok, but only 1 ID per site!

I think it is good to have more than one name. The Air Force taught me that you can always blame something on somebody or make an excuse for somebody when you are not in that body. Also, everybody needs somebody. If I say or do something stupid than my other body can say well he was just getting over a sickness and didn't know what he was saying. Then my real body would take over and start all over again until I flubbed up again causing my other body to step in again and make another excuse. Just substitute different names for the different bodies and you can fool anyone. Well, at least you think you can fool anyone. We all know what Honest Abe said about "You can fool some of the people ........" Then you have to get past the Admins, not any easy task....I will just keep JohnnyM and be happy!

NJGranny just shared that it is easy to do. She has done it when she has forgotten her password. OH the possibilities. Who shall I be?

JUST KIDDING Tony!!

But seriously, having no avatar and a low number of posts always makes me wonder, especially in the placement of the posts in certain threads. Also when certain writing styles are similar and having the same spelling errors.

Well, it isn't a serious thing, only annoying to me.

I personally think if someone has enough ambition to be multiple personalities and can keep them all straight when posting, go for it!

And now I've been outed... I'm actually Muncle, Fumar, SteveZ, Sidney, ZCaveman, Kahuna, Faithfulfrank, Huncle, Handie, Talk Host. I'd better stop this, is beginning to look like I have some kind of envy....... :1rotfl:

redwitch
11-09-2008, 11:28 AM
I'm redwitch on almost every site. The main exception is my parenting board. I do post there under another name because I don't want people to think my views have special weight because I own the board. If I need to state a policy issue, it is under red (but my moderators usually beat me to the punch and I don't have to worry about it). Otherwise, I post under a different name but that is the only place I use two ids.

There really isn't much of an excuse for using a second id at a site except ego, unless, like Jan, it is because of log in issues or maybe to play a practical joke. Other than that, it is rude and is pretty much the old style of making anonymous, ugly phone calls. You can do it but it is pretty sophomoris.

Guilty...I used to be md blondie...now I am just Blondie. Jan helped me with this change. When I first logged on Blondie was taken, hence md blondie...then the real Blondie left, and I am trying to fill her shoes...they are pinching a bit though.
I have enough difficulty dealing with me, let alone having another identity...that's kinda schizy to me, but I don't want to judge folks b/c I don't wish to be judged. I think if there are reasons that another identity was created, then as long as you're up front about it....no harm no foul.

Taltarzac
11-09-2008, 01:39 PM
I have a very large number of posting names on other boards. In fact, I had so many on Findlaw's now completely altered message boards that I would just log in with a new name every single time I posted a message.

The reason for all these names was that soon after I started posting on Findlaw's message boards in April of 2002, another poster started parodying my posts by posting as someone very close to my original name. This would be like his starting to post on TOTV as "Taltarsack". He kept this up all through about February 2006. Almost four whole years of bait and switch, harass and annoy, pester and irk from this central Virginian who for almost three years of this menace against my Internet presence also begged me for help with his legal research as he was fighting a civil case of corporate malfeasance coupled with as he claimed corrupt judges in his cases' jurisdiction.

I did not figure out this man's identity as my cyberbully until around November 2005 as he has a Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde type internet personality.

I have only one TOTV name though and so far TOTV has been a very enjoyable experience for me.

From what I gathered on Findlaw though this man who so stalked me on Findlaw's messages boards for almost four years had been kicked off of almost every other message board he had been on.

No sign of him so far on TOTV even though I am positive he could figure out my presence on TOTV from the number of posts I have as well as their content, writing style, and the like.

I am also on Internet Movie Database but use only one name on that which is quite different from Taltarzac.

Blondie, I am guilty of doing the same thing you did. I used to drag the last name BeBack around with me. (long story) Anyway, I grew weary of it and wanted it gone. I did not like it anymore. It took up too much space and needed a big explanation. And so I shed the BeBack.

I decided to just go the way of my fellow baby boomer Cherilyn Sarkisian and have just one name. (But I like B3 which my fellow boomer Muncle calls me. He and I showed up here about the same time. I started out with 3 B's in my name. I still like that B3 thing, although I don't have 3 B's anymore.)

Anyway, I just now slunk past my one year stay here at TOTV. I do not have any other boards or any other names. My computer is in my kitchen, and I peek in here way too often. I do not know what I would do with another board or another name.

We have that happen on our local Jersey boards. People pick a name that's almost the same as another poster's. Then you have to keep remembering which is the real person and which is the "fake."

I don't get why people do this, but it's annoying and rather nasty IMHO.

GG,

I think I have to tell you something...This thread you started...well, it is causing me some problems. I think I am having flashbacks. Great, GG, just great. Now, I feel a shameless confession coming on.

Sometimes, not very often, but sometimes, things around here can get a little...well, a little ill-mannered. And I remember one time when some things were being said that I did not like one bit.

And when I read the weird, mean, er, ill-mannered stuff, I confess, I heard a little voice in my head. Well, maybe it was not exactly a voice in my head. I think it might have been like in those old cartoons where a devil is on one shoulder and an angel on the other.

Anyway, the voice said, "Ohhhhh, Booooomer. Sign me up. Sign me up. My name is NiceLady and I will do the deed for you. C'mon, Boooooomer, let me go get 'em. You know I can do it. Don't you? You know you want me to. Ohhhhh, Boooomer."

Oh GG, I had to wrestle that demon. I did. I knew that it would not be right. And I made NiceLady go away.

And a time or two, I ventured into political. And I guess I had missed the memo about how I was supposed to check my sense of humor at the door. And I took a hit. It came out of nowhere. I was not expecting it.

And sure enough, I heard another little voice. And the voice said, "Yo! Boom! My name is PunchBowl and I can take this one out for ya. You know you want me to. C'mon, girl, take a walk on the wild side for once. Let me at 'em."

But GG, I resisted again. I just ran away fast from that thread. I did not cry, "Foul." I simply cried, "Fowl." I know I am a chicken sometimes.

So I never took a different name. It just ain't right.

(Maybe I had better ask Tony how to copyright those names, NiceLady and PunchBowl, though, just in case they show up here. Oh great, GG. Now I will have to worry about that happening.)

And something else, too. I think Peachie sounds like me sometimes. Or I sound like Peachie. Peachie uses allusions. Yesterday Pearl Buck. Today Freud with that envy thing in this thread. I use allusions, too.

OHMYGOSHOHMYGOSHOHMYGOSH!!!!

Peachie is allusional. I am allusional.

WHAT IF I AM DELUSIONAL?????

OH, GG, WHAT IF I AM PEACHIE!!!!!!

Oh, GG, what have you wrought? wrote? written? by starting this thread?

Peachie! Peachie! Can you hear me, Peachie? Please tell me you are you.

Boomer, you have been remodeling for sooo long that you need fresh air. Make new plans for yourself and Mr. Boomer to come to TV's in February 2009 and you and I will meet, perhaps at Barnes and Nobles because it appears the two of us have spent too much time reading too many literary works. A part of me wanted to claim, "yes, it's true... Peachie is really Boomer" because I saw that picture of you and Mr. Boomer at the beautiful wedding and it would be great if everyone thought I looked that lovely. But, alas, if I am nothing else... I try to be as very honest as I can be. We are not one, but that's okay. I am enjoying the mental connect with you and so many others here. :highfive:

Oh Peachie,

Thank goodness you heard me. And I think you may be on to something about the project getting to me. I think a woman can deal with a project for only so long. We are living in abject squalor. Dust covers everything in the place. Things are piled all over. There are drills on charge in my living room. I make a million decisions a day. We talk about red oak and white oak and poplar, oh my!

And it is getting cold here. And gray.

Today, as we were driving home from -- where else? Home Depot, I said to Mr. Boomer that we have to get down there in February.

Oh Peachie, I sure hope so. I am going to give it my best shot. I hated having to give up that reservation, but I know what I am looking at here with this project timeline. I do not know how I ever thought I could get away in January. I am going to do what I can to get there in February. Ohio in February is not a pretty sight. We will have to meet outside somewhere -- in that glorious sunshine.

This is from the FindLaw Answers Community Guidelines:

"Do not impersonate any person or entity, use an identity similar to another identity used in the FindLaw community such that it may be misleading to other users or falsely state or otherwise misrepresent your affiliation with a person or entity."

Findlaw when I posted on its message boards heavily from April 2002 through about July 2006 was like Tombstone before Wyatt Earp and his brothers showed up. It was a free-for-all. Quite entertaining to read but you often did not want to get into the melee unless you wanted to get bloody.

This kind of free-for-all also probably really attracts trolls and other kinds of internet vermin.

I have not seen any of this impersonating other posters on TOTV.

When compared with Findlaw or the Internet Movie Database, Tony, I have seen very few really nasty exchanges on TOTV. Maybe, you are deleting them before I can see them but this seems to be for the most part a very civil set of forums.

The political forums on TOTV can get quite heated in exchanges but I have not seen anything that really crosses a line like I saw quite often on Findlaw's message boards. They often looked like were more appropriate for a Junior High School restroom wall than posts from lawyers, defendants, law students, convicts, and the like.

Internet Movie Database's Administrators do a lot of deleting of posts others find offensive.

You do sometimes find stars and starlets posting on the Internet Movie Database though. The Mercury Girl (Jill Wagner), for instance, posts every few months about her struggles to get out of commercials and onto the movie screen as well as into TV programs.
