A friend of mine e-mailed me about an account of a Villages woman who used a small caliber pistol to save herself from an alligator. I don't believe that this appeared in any of the local papers.

Florida woman stops alligator attack with a small Beretta pistol.

This is a story of self-control and marksmanship by a brave, cool-headed woman with a small pistol against a fierce predator. What is the smallest caliber that you would trust to protect yourself? A Beretta Jet fire testimonial.

Here is her story in her own words:

"While out walking along the edge of a pond just outside of The Villages with my soon-to-be ex-husband discussing property settlement and other divorce issues, we were surprised by a huge 12-ft. alligator which suddenly emerged from the murky water and began charging us with its large jaws wide open.

She must have been protecting her nest because she was extremely aggressive. If I had not had my little Beretta Jet fire .25 caliber pistol with me, I would not be here today! Just one shot to my estranged husband's knee cap was all it took. The 'gator got him easily and I was able to escape by just walking away at a brisk pace. It's one of the best pistols in my collection! Plus the amount I saved in lawyer's fees was really incredible!"

dbussone, That's a beautiful dog in your profile picture. I have a neighbor in Tampa who has two of them. They are sweet tempered and very friendly with a very soft coat.

DonH57, Your profile picture is so small that I can't be sure, but it looks like you have a chocolate Lab. Back when I was physically able I used to duck hunt over a Lab. I marvel at their willingness to plunge into cold water to retrieve a downed duck.

Reminds me of the old story of two men camping in the woods when an angry bear approaches their tent. The first guy starts putting his sneakers on, and the second says "You can't outrun a bear" First replies "I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun YOU"

Yes, he's a chocolate lab and german shorthair pointer mix. He's never hunted but loves the golf cart.

It is mutual. I enjoyed meeting you and your family in person back when I first got on TOTV.

Your parents appropriately named you Grace, for Barbara and I found you a person of gentle grace.

Hope you and yours are well.

Good one Carl for sure, I'm thinking a female gator is rarely grows larger then 8 foot. A Beretta 25 not going to stop a much of anything let alone a gator. I will be telling this story to my friends. 2 Thumbs up….
