On our online newspaper there is mention of a 75 year old villager who has gone missing.
It also states that he has dementia. How come he is still allowed to drive?
Anyone want to bet who is more impaired a person who has dementia or person with .08 blood alcohol level.
We took care of my wife's mom for 7 months, she almost killed my wife driving the block.

Good morning Chatbrat.
It also states they argued before he left. The Dementia may just have shown signs. You can choose to be drunk, you are stuck with Dementia.
Did your wife's mom have a Mercedes too?

Please don't be so harsh - I'm sure the caregivers are beside themselves. This is a terrible disease that affects the entire family and it really is time for compassion not hate.

If you look at the Comments on the Online site it looks like someone located him yesterday evening or thereabouts.
Dementia has levels. Some people could still drive even if they forget what they had for breakfast or repeat things that they just asked.
That other site has some rather dense reporters who should learn some discretion as to what they put in these descriptions.

The Comment was supposedly incorrect. The man is still out there. I got a Facebook update from the site that must not be named.

Looked at the other site this morning (Sunday), in red lettering it states, he has NOT been located.
There seems to be significant confusion, the article does not state he is licensed, just that he took the keys and the car. Please remember this person is suffering from dementia and probably does not realize what he is doing. Hope he is found OK.

The car should have OnStar since it is a GM product, I think it could be located using that.

My wife's mom had a Buick, typical old person's car @ the time. We only buy Mercedes because of the safety features comfort and the amount of boron high strength steel used.
Ms Smith said her Mercedes saved her life when she was broadsided.

Subaru use multiple layers of high strength steel. Boron steel is a problem because of the difficultly with extraction if necessary.

I am very glad we have Amber and Silver alerts. At least we the people have passed laws to help us do kind things, even if some of us act like we are "raised with wolves".
It doesn't take a house to fall on you to know that the people who love this man are VERY worried. I hope someone finds him or he finds his way home. I don't know what would happen to either of us if we were told to do something like stop driving and still feel like we could handle it. There are all kinds of very sad situations, getting older. We have all worked so hard and always faced tough things and are stubborn, most of us. I hope he will be found before the sun goes down tonight and I pray that if or when it happens to me or Sweetie that we will be saved from something so awful.

He is probably still able to safely drive but not remember how to find his way such as the way home. I don't let my wife drive for the same reason since her dementia has slowly gotten worse. Trying to show her how to use the gps would be like talking to her in chinese........I'd like to know the difference between "Amber and Silver" alert. One must be a higher priority.

At 4:30 p.m. Monday, ****** drove himself to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Village Annex and told deputies that he had heard he was being sought.
“Mr. ******* was in good condition and was removed as a missing/endangered adult,” the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. This is from the site that must not be named.

Respectfully may I inquire what the fixation on THE BENZ is all about? From my point of view a person could pocket $50 to $100 K and still drive a new vehicle that is equally safe. I can't remember what year it was but I sold my 420 SEL the week after Princess Diana succumbed to the injuries she sustained while being a passenger in a large model Mercedes. I don't have that kind of scratch anymore but if I did I would rather look at the nice balance in the market than pay that much for a car. Am I allowed to move into The Villages if I don't own a German Car? We drive Ford because they are American and they didn't ask for a bailout. Thank God this man got home to his family safely, he was on our mind.

I'm with you. First, thank God he is OK. Second, I have a Buick and a Chrysler, made in the USA. Once, only once in the last 40 years did I own a foreign car, a Toyota Avalon. Gave it back after a year when it accelerated to 100 mph on it's own. Oh, my bad, I forgot. Toyota sent an engineer from New Jersey who told me that it never happened. I sent them a letter with the car asking if I was a fool or a liar. And their response--none.

NO it wasn't me grousing about $0.83. I would never go to a package delivery service without my package being taped and prepared otherwise they may see the content's and be tempted. I remember getting a chuckle out of that silly post. I'm an easy going guy if I forgot to prepare the package I would pay the charge with a smile because in a small business it's not easy to keep the lights on everybody wants but nobody wants to pay.
When we are fortunate enough to join you lucky people I will do my best to be patient, courteous, friendly, helpful & try not to cry over details that seem to drive everyone nuts. Please remind me if I ever shed a teardrop.:sing:

I must have been sleep typing if I said Florida Lobster is better than Maine Lobster. I hate to admit it but I only eat Lobster Tail's and we will have a blind test upon TV arrival, it will be a blast. The biggest seafood thing I have a hard time understanding is the high regard you all have for Aldi's supermarket. Mr. tomwed sent me pictures of seafood from there and I believe everyone that the place is great but you have to believe me that you need a bodyguard to shop at the ones in NJ and buying seafood shouldn't be done by price in my opinion. Check out Hunts Point Market in da Bronx...now there is the place to get seafood....Ahhhhhh. Hope to see you all soon...but still no dice!
