Best Rte from CT to the Villages

Does anyone have the directions for travel from CT to The Villages via rte 81? We don't want to go on 95.....Rte 81 on the Blue Ridge Mountains is very scenic. Can't seem to get this rte mapped out on Mapquest or Triple A.

Our favorite route from MA to FL is:
84W to Scranton
81S past Roanoke
77S to Columbia
26S to Rt. 95 S

No tolls Southbound. One toll Northbound

I just dug out my route from September when we drove here from Central NY via I-81. Because we were traveling with our 90 lb lab, we were also looking for motels that would allow a big dog. Our route was essentially I-81, I-77, I-26E, I-95, to 301. We were only 218 mi on 95, and it was fine. Will you come across I-84 (I think) from CT to pick up 81?
