once again the people at TECO are offering me inside gas line protection and I find that quite curious ............. unless our builder here in TheVillages has done something else cheap and underhanded or inept ( ie. vinal siding & no heat shields on our Kitchen stove) .......... in our previous location, the gas lines were 20 + years old, no problem ........
and what should I know about GREY pipes ??? ........
I really like living here, but sometimes :censored:I feel like they saw me coming:ohdear:

I have been very happy with the quality of homes we have purchased in TV. After 4 years we have had two problems: Slight leak at kitchen faucet , and dishwasher malfunction. We just went thru settlement last week on the in-laws house and we were EXTREMELY impressed with the builder. We had snuck into the house and made a list of about 20 items that we had found for the walk thru. On closing day 18 of these had already been taken care of (all were cosmetic , paint and chalk ). The two that were not : the drywall cutout around the laundry sink was too large for the cover. The builder had a repair person out and had it fixed before the walk thru was over. The other was an issue with the color of a kitchen cabinet door. Builder also called his kitchen guy and has arranged for a swap out.

I dont believe that TECO trying to increase their bottom line by selling you a warranty on gas pipes, or Embarq trying to do the same by selling you a warranty on the inside phone lines has anything at all to do with the quality of construction here.

We have been here for 2.5 years now and we have not had one problem with the home construction or appliances. We have however upgraded our home in several areas. My biggest problem right now is re-charging the battery in my wife's golf cart. Looks like it needs to be replaced.

gjmucci on 08-03-2008 had a excellent thread that points to purhaps why TECO is offering gas line protection. Check out search "Lightning" to get all that was said. Very informative.

Gas lines in the attic in lightning-prone areas

Many of us have been made aware of several facts that have converged to create some concern about the safety of some homes with gas lines installed in the attic. These facts include the following:

- The rapid destruction of the home that burned down due to a lightning strike
- Gas lines installed in the attic
- The materials (CSST) of the gas lines in the attic
- The nationwide incidence of perferation of these materials via lightning strikes
- The recognition of this part of Florida being the lightning bulls-eye of the western hemisphere.
