Painting - Gardenia

A few months ago we decided to paint and I am loving color on the walls. I need advice from anyone who owns the Gardenia model. Do you paint the poles? I think they should remain cream color, base to top, regardless of the shade of the walls, however my husband thinks they should match the walls. Even if I would agree with him, which walls should they match, the living area or the hallway and the kitchen?

Sounds like a personal choice to me, try painting them one way and if you don't like it try another color.....GN

I would probably paint the same color as the woodwork.

We just had ours painted and I think it really looks good leaving the poles as is.

We prenently live in NY. In the next few months we will start construction also on a Gardenia in Amelia.
In our present home our 2 turnings are white to match the trim and mouldings. Our liv/dr is a similar layout to the Gardenia.
If you want something unique have the turnings finished like they were made of marble. this will give you a very dramatic look.

I would do marble only if you want a formal decorating theme. I like marble and have it up north but here where I am trying to do a casual, cottagy, beachy feel, it doesn't work for me.

We have chosen to leave the poles area white, like the woodwork. It think it would break up the lovely impact when painted.We have painted the kitchen and hall Sea Teal and will paint the great room the next shade lighter. I will try to photograph ours, but we aren't finished painting yet. (Stopped for Thanksgiving)

We have friends with a million dollar home in South Florida that has been "done" by a decorator. They have their walls painted some sort of taupe/dark cream/ off white color, and the poles have been painted with the marbelized effect. It is stunning - very rich looking. They brightened up their colors in accents such as paintings, rugs, pillows, etc. They have a modern theme. If I were painting the walls a different color, such as brick or olive, I would probably leave the poles the same color as the woodwork, otherwise it might look a little too busy.
