We were just wondering if it is hard to get on the golf courses when the snowbirds are down?

Not hard for 1 or 2 people.
But, you're not going to just walk on any course any time of day.
For flexibility, I recommend signing up with the villages.net.
You can view open spots at all courses up to a day before you want to golf.

Not too hard. We just have to plan ahead a little bit more. You cannot just walk up and expect to play as easily as in non-bird season. But using the system (phone or on-line) tee times are available. We (wife & I) have had no problem at all.....

And the greens are great now that the winter rye is established on most all the courses!:pepper2:

If you feel impulsive and can move quickly you can always call the starter directly. They do have cancellations and no-shows which they're happy to fill with a single or couple. It's also a good way to meet new people. Don't recall meeting anyone on a golf course I didn't like.

Compared to the "off" season, the answer is yes.

Having said that, if you select a long "window" for play time and are not too fussy what course you get, there should be no problem.

Now that the season is on us I find the two foursomes I play with weekly(executive courses) are not getting our usual times and courses. However, it is better than no golf at all.
