View Full Version : Equal pay?

Hillary is attempting to run her campaign with one of her themes being "equal pay for women."
I have tried, but I cannot find an area, other than sports that pays women less than men for the same job. Is that what she is referring to? If she is attempting a claim that women don't get the same jobs, but want the same wages, then I believe she is barking up the wrong tree. She does bark you know. I have read where women only receive about 79 cents on a dollar that men make, but they don't suggest that the women have the same jobs.
Does a female doctor make less than a male doctor?
Does a female lawyer make less than a male lawyer?
Does a female Captain in the military make less than a male?
Maybe a female teacher makes less than a male teacher?
If the female does not have the same job, then I hardly see how she deserves the same pay. A male secretary does not make as much as female executive.
A male nurse does not make as much as a female doctor.
Articles suggest that there is a general difference in income, male versus female. I wonder who's fault that would be.
I believe that Hillary is pandering for the female vote with the only ammo available, wage inequity. Her party would be better off trying to work on minority unemployment figures. Since Obama, the black unemployment has risen, not lowered. She needs to concentrate on getting families off of food stamps. Since Obama, we have a record high of those on food stamps.
Bernie is pandering to the young by promising them something he can't give them, FREE college. And it seems to be working for him. If the deck wasn't so stacked against him by the DNC, then he would be more competition for Hillary. But, even though she is just barely beating him with the popular vote, she has bought enough Super Delegates to carry her to the nomination. It's a done deal. Bernie is just to make her look like she worked for it. Window dressing.

Have you had your head in the sand, equal pay for equal jobs, is not happening. I hope your wife or daughters or grand daughters are not effected by the discrepancy. You would be the first one hollering.

They hardly ever do an "equal" job. If the entire job involves sitting at a desk, they do equal jobs. Anything else, hardly equal.

So, other than sports, there is no validity to the statement that females do not get equal pay for equal positions. The whole idea that Hillary is attempting to exploit is noting more than a sham. That's like saying, high school graduates do not get paid equally with college grads. Or, the dog catcher doesn't get paid as much as a police officer. Hillary is a con artist.

Well I will give you the short answer first. Predominately in divorces women always have the edge over men. In death women outlive men and thus here are a lot of rich widows out there.:D
I spent a good part of my career dealing with employee compensation and benefits. This entailed conferencing with employers from all industry in a community in order to understand prevailing market values for executive, professional managerial and clerical .
Performance evaluations, starting salaries, salary schedules, promotions retention of employees reducing turnover and more require equality.
The differences come in the career choices people make, balancing their work life vis a vis their personal life, their competitiveness, etc. For public/privates union shops its easier because it is all fixed by contract.
People will never learn. Politicians intentionally create controversy and division because it draws people to them (collectives) (herds). that's what presidential candidates do, that 's what race baiting leaders do that, that's what unions do, etc. Class distinctions, race distinctions, religious distinctions, equal pay, income redistributions, the 1% the 99%, the fat cats war on women............ These are the type of people that like nanny government
TOO MANY AMERICAN HAVE LOST OR NEVER ACHIEVED THEIR INDIVIDUAL IDENTITY.

Actually, the difference between the MEDIAN pay rate is more like 19% today. It is rare for two individuals of the opposite sex doing the same job for the same employer to have different pay scales, but that doesn't mean it doesn't still occur. Because men are not usually the primary caregivers, they can work longer hours and aren't forced to put their careers on hold as much as women. This is where the majority of the disparity comes from today and, being female and having a daughter, I'd like to see something worked out.

So, the way I see it, there is no disparity between male and female wages other than in sports. Women feel that they deserve breaks because they have to take off to have babies, even though that is their choice, not the employers. When I say breaks, I mean they feel that by having a baby, they believe that they should continue to get the same increases in pay and positioning as anyone that has not missed months off for having a baby. Other than that, what is the big deal? If females do not wish to take the high risk or high stress jobs of men, then why do they feel they deserve to get paid more than their employer is willing to pay them? After all, a nurse should not get paid as much as a doctor. A secretary should not expect to get paid as much as the executive. Male or female, the position and job dictates, not the gender. The government has been giving paternity leave for some time. If I was a female, I believe I would object to that. After all, who had to endure the long months of discomfort and the body stress of producing another life form? Not the male. But, that is just my opinion and has nothing to do with the subject.
So, all the screaming about equality is just a Hillary sham to get more female votes. That seems rather sexist, doesn't it?

Yes, and it is misleading. Only in socialism are you going to come up with something similar to equal pay for all jobs. And even then, certain categories get paid more than others.
The theme of the equal pay for women is suppose to be equal pay for equal jobs. There are hardly any jobs that don't pay the same for male versus female workers. Entertainment is probably the only sector that comes to mind.
Just because they take an average pay for the gender population, does not mean that all those women had the same job as men. They didn't. They chose to take lower paying jobs for differing reasons, whether it was more convenient for the family or because of their lack of skill set. The only disparity today is in the mind of those that wish to exploit the non-issue.

Let's start with this:
Lilly Ledbetter vs Goodyear Tire and Rubber:
http://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/06pdf/05-1074.pdf
Every employer, for which I have worked, required me to never discuss my pay rate with another employee. This makes it quite difficult to find out if men are making more than women in the same level or band.

In many corporations have 1 pay scale for all positions. Take for example a technical specialist. The band for that position may have 10 grades to which you can advance. Beginning technical specialists would start at the small pay grade regardless of sex.
You can advance in the band based on performance and years of experience. These factors will affect the rate of pay to different people.
But if the title, experience and performance is the same men and women have to be equal.

Just as I said, head in sand. Can you google, or are you to lazy.
No, the point is that I have used Google and have not found anything that is real evidence of inequality of pay between male and female for the same job. Everything available suggests that women are not taking the same jobs, and settle on lower paying jobs. Not all women, but enough to move the overall scale so that it appears that the totality of the women population are generally making less. I can find figures that suggest a pay disparity between city workers and rural workers, where the city workers get paid more than country workers. So, does that mean that those out in the country areas should insist on getting paid as much as those in the city?
The point is that there is really no current evidence that women are being discriminated upon when it comes to men and women in the same job positions. If there is any evidence, it is rare.
So, friend it appears that if you are willing to believe Hillary without any evidence that she is telling the truth, then you probably also believe that she is not guilty of mishandling classified information, or using her private unsecured computer to transmit classified information. You probably also believe that the Clintons did not steal go property when they left the White House, even though they were forced to pay the gov back thousands of dollars. And you probably don't believe that she lied to the families of the victims of Benghazi. So, I bet your use of "head in the sand" is ironic, considering.

The government is not a union. Why does everyone insist that the gov regulate every aspect of private business. They can't even run their own business (Gov.) properly. I have seen female owned businesses discriminate against men by only hiring women. I have seen minority owned businesses only hire minorities. We only have a free country if the gov allows Freedom. Hillary is exploiting an old problem, thinking that women are stupid enough to believe her and support her. She has a very low opinion of women, but after the exploits of her husband, I can understand why and almost sympathize.

You don't get it... Without affirmative action, quotas, and government making laws to help them... There wouldn't BE minority/women owned businesses. They're just not cut out for it. They can't make them succeed without help. That's why there is so much help available to them. It's why laws that apply to a white male owned business can't apply to them. When on an EQUAL footing, the man wins almost every time. It's genetics. Women aren't genetically made the same as men. Women excel at many things, but growing a REAL business (cupcakes, decorating, cleaning, and childcare aren't REAL businesses like steel making, heavy manufacturing, etc) isn't one of them. Same for the minorities, they excel in other areas. Nobody complains that the NBA or NFL is filled with mostly black players, because they're good at it. But they complain when they're underrepresented as CEOs or scientists when they're NOT good at it.
If the government didn't force us, they'd be sitting on the side lines, unable to compete. Women would be home raising their own children instead of passing that job onto some 3rd world immigrant. Men could go back to doing what they do best, taking care of their family. Leveling the playing field would be a good thing.

'A federal law, the Equal Pay Act (EPA), requires employers to pay men and women equally for doing the same work -- equal pay for equal work. The Equal Pay Act was passed in 1963 as an amendment to the Fair Labor Standards Act and can be found at 29 U.S.C. § 206."
If what you say is true, why do we need this law.

MAybe it is because they may be in "equal" jobs but the women are just not doing "equal" work, hence leaving the door open for variances.
Before the feminist supporters jump in I believe the same goes for ANYBODY in equal jobs....I just followed suit in the gender nature of the posts.
The person who who the better in the same job should and will get better ratings and better ratings will result in more of a pay increase, thus leading to different people in the same job getting different rates of pay.
If there is an issue that a female should get the same because of being female........not on my watch they would not!!

Boy, you got that right. I've worked at a lot of places with women "supposedly" doing the same job. Well, the women skate, they NEVER do the same as men. It's either too hard, too heavy, too dirty, too sweaty, it's always too something. Then they have the chutzpah to brag to everyone how "equal" they are.
Men and women are different. VERY different. We shouldn't be putting square pegs into round holes. Some things men are better at, some things women are better. Use those differences as nature intended, don't think we're going to win the fight against nature.
Women should raise their children as best they can. Men should provide the family support. It's worked for thousands of years, our way has NOT been working. The amount of people receiving food stamps, 50 million (mostly women/children), would make a soup line 9,500 miles long. That's 3 times across the US. So, lets go back to the traditional family and traditional roles.

Anger issues? The thread is regarding equal pay. There is no issue with equal pay, even though Hillary with her damaged head seems to think so. When she bumped her head, it must have put her mind back in the past century where she is still fighting for equal rights.
Other than sports, can you give me an example of women getting paid less than men for the same work? Hillary is jut attempting to provoke because she has no platform to run on other than some form of perceived equal rights.

I wonder what she would say on current issues? We do know that she said she would continue Obama's failed policies. I guess that means that she would continue the illegal Executive Order policy, if she didn't get her way. Just like Obumbag. Think she would continue his policy of "leading from behind?" I can understand Obumbie getting behind it, since he is the first "Gay President." Of course, Chillary may very well be our first transgender president, if she doesn't go to jail before the election.

I remember when the girls were winning the world soccer cup. At the time, the highest american player was making $100k. Some girls, women, the best in the world are making $35kin America.
I feel sorry for the girls being in this position and going to the Olympics. I hope they win the case and don't need to make personal sacrifices to get the money they deserve now. They are getting old.
The men play on grass and they make the women play on astroturf. Their career could end in an instant.
These women are the role models you want for your girls. Why is this even an issue?

The men play on grass and they make the women play on astroturf. Their career could end in an instant.
These women are the role models you want for your girls. Why is this even an issue?
Well spoken.....

They still can't beat the mens team. In ANY sport. There'd be no women in sports without women's sports.
Does it make you feel more feminine to bash on men?
If you took care of yourself, didn't let yourself go, maybe someone would be interested enough in you to not need the "help".

So, women aren't paid equally for female sports. I am sure that Hillary will generate a lot of votes for that cause. Other than sports, there really isn't any pay disparity in women performing the same jobs as men. Time to move on. I realize that liberals insist on protesting and demonstrating for all kinds of discrimination, but what is funny is what are they going to do once that becomes a moot point? They are running out of issues. About the only thing left is their idea that they deserve to share in someone else's earnings. That those that earned their wealth while they were playing, don't deserve to keep what they earned. That they should share it. And the funny thing is that they want the gov to take the wealthy's money. And they will never see a dime of it. The only distribution they will see is from those that earn it to the hands of the gov. So that they gov can waste it away frivolously as usual and ask for more.

Does anybody but me wonder why these so called unacceptable conditions have been just fine up until recently?
I think the focus on a false equality is driving all of this type activity.
Once upon a time women were not even in the game for many reasons. One being a woman. Then it was decided to let them in with differing conditions like surfaces, rules, and yes pay.
No problem for many years. And now why???
And if they were to be 100% subjected to the same conditions, rules and pay and could not for reason of being a woman; the cry then would be about the unfairness of conditions for a woman to compete.
For those who are activists and staunch supporters of woman's equality....at some point reality will return and acknowledge their are major differences between a male and a female. Like it or not there are some things a woman's body just was not designed to do.
Any woman who can do 100% of what a man does in sports, business or other then let that woman be compesated and acknowledged accordingly. Do not jump up and down to try to convince the world all women are created equal is about as non senical as trying to convince the world all men are created equal. When it comes to physical and mental and many other capabilities......they just are not.
Once again a minority representation is trying to make their case appear to be a general condition.

This is ALL still...women's soccer. Or women's basketball. If these women went head to head with the men they'd be slaughtered.
You are NOT men, so stop trying to be one!
You just make fools of yourselves when you cry and moan about how unequal everything is. You're just not as good at that as men are. We were MADE to run and chase, so you could stay home and teach the children. It's what we need to start doing again.

OMG a neanderthal! I thought they were extinct! But here you are in The Villages. The fact there are more women than men 50.8% of US population. Since the equal rights and protection laws we have grown in status, business and wealth. Your kind cannot stack the deck against us and keep us barefoot and pregnant.

You just described WHY we need the "Make America Great Again" reforms! Women, with their liberal ways, need for security, and welfare loving ways, have totally screwed up a once great nation. We are divided, broke, and turning 3rd world. Hope you liked your run. If it all falls, I'd sure hate to be a woman. You have one use to most men, and in another "dark ages", it'll be your only worth. Hope it doesn't collapse in your lifetime. This country is beyond bankrupt, it spends a $trillion more than it takes in every year. The height of a stack of 1,000,000,000,000 (one trillion) one dollar bills measures 67,866 miles. This would reach more than one fourth the way from the earth to the moon. It would circle the earth more than 2.5 times. Remember, that's stacked one on top of the other, not end to end. 67,866 miles of stacked paper...that's a LOT.
Tell me again how great we're doing compared to the "neanderthal 1950s". Women are debt slaves too, they HAVE to work, their kids are all screwed up because 3rd worlders are raising them, everything costs more and all the good jobs are gone, but gay people can marry.

I am a woman and I have no debt! I came into the workforce in 1973 Nixon was president there were wage freeze's mine was frozen at 3.10 per hour. A college grad in the medical field. Over the next few years I worked my way up to Chief Tech of the Laboratory only to have my wages frozen at that level. After 2 years of that I took a job at the same level of pay but with a way forward. After 20 years I was making $50.00 plus overtime.
Now tell me again how great the 1950's were, my mother was a nurse she made $3,000 a year, I made >100K.

I doubt he lives in the Villages. His house would have been burned down a long time ago. We do have some trolls and agitators from all over the place on here. I'm sure he is harmless. His caretaker will be along shortly to give him his meds, I'm sure. He probably hasn't kept current on his AA meetings. His last one attended was probably thirty years ago.

Actually, I don't think he was referring to wages when he was screaming about going back to the 50's. But, I do know where you are coming from. You are proof that we have come a long way when it comes to equal pay. The issue here is whether or not equal pay is still a viable point, or if it is moot. Hillary is attempting to gain female support by alluding to women not making the equivalent pay for the same job. And I believe that this premise is no longer valid or rare today. Sports is a different matter. In my opinion and the opinion of my wife, Hillary is insulting females with her attempt to pander to the females, pander to the youth and pander to the minority. She seems to think that women and minorities are not interested in how she plans to encourage or stimulate the economy, exterminate terrorism and repair all the racial damage that has occurred during Obama's reign.

Why do you always think a responder is a man? I am not. I have had a house in The Villages since 2008. When I retired 2 years ago we sold our house in Colorado and moved full time to The Villages. However, after 1.5 summers here we decided we were NOT going to make it as FROGS so we purchased a condo in Colorado for the summer. We leave tomorrow for the Women's Final Four and then in late April for the mountains.
I am NOT a troll and I don't drink
Both of my houses are mortgage free..... I worked hard and saved just as hard.

Explain that in regards to the World Champion Women's Soccer Team....
Did they not play hard, did they not play more games than the men in the World Cup, did they not win more money than the men?
Actually all of that is true so how are they coveting their neighbors goods?

I say fight back.
I prefer the players be cooperative and positive, but that sometimes it's necessary to be confrontational when the other side is treating you unfairly or trying to take advantage of them.
The risk is that you'll make a bad situation worse, and I certainly don't recommend this approach to everyone. In my experience is that if you're fighting for something you believe in — even if it means alienating some people along the way — things usually work out for the best in the end.

This goes BOTH ways my dear... I think I'm being treated unfairly with diversity and affirmative action. I'm "fighting back" because I believe in NO quotas or affirmative action. I'm definitely alienation people along the way. But hopefully, we'll someday take our country back from the 3rd world parasites invading it now. The women who want to be men who are lowering all the standards.
It goes both ways. You fight FOR something and there's someone else fighting AGAINST it. Neither should be silenced, yet that's what you want to happen to me, silenced.

Trump says that he prefers to be cooperative and positive, but that sometimes it's necessary to be confrontational when the other side is treating him unfairly or trying to take advantage of him.
"The risk is that you'll make a bad situation worse, and I certainly don't recommend this approach to everyone," he writes.
