Since we sold our house and moved from our lifelong home in Illinois to The Villages, we have been impressed with the quality of the political administration, both in the State and in Sumter County. The county is great, particularly since the enactment of One Sumter. The quality of the State government is terrific, as well. We weren't here for very long under Jeb Bush's administration, but Charlie Crist seems to be following in his footsteps and doing a terrific job.
Contrast that with Illinois. Here's an article from today's paper reporting the outrageous actions of the current Illinois governor in trying to sell former Senator Obama's seat in the Congress http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122883415161091395.html. The current Governor was already under investigation for other federal offenses, but this one takes the cake. To give you some idea of the depth of the corruption in Illinois, when the current Governor is convicted--the indictment seems to be rock solid--that will mean that four of the seven Governors who have been elected in Illinois since 1968 will have been convicted and imprisoned. An eighth, dating back to 1953, was tried for federal tax evasion and acquitted, but lived his later years in shame.
Believe me, we should feel blessed by our state and county elected officials here in Florida.
