Had our sprinkler / irrigation system tuned-up by Jim Baumgartner (352-504-2317) which is the only way to go...excellent, reliable and reasonable. One item he pointed out to us is that these systems have a 9V back-up battery. Our's had never been changed since our home was built 8 years ago. It does not run the system, it only retains the memory of the schedule, times, days, etc. However if you lost the electricity on that particular circuit you would have to reprogram the system. Simple and cheap DIY fix...snap open the lower door on the controller box in your garage and replace the battery...similar to a smoke detector battery change.

Forgot to mention...Jim lives right here in The Vilages.

If you have a power outage and the backup battery is dead you loose your settings and when it comes on with house power it has reverted to default settings. Our default settings was 6 hrs per zone.

This happened to us when we were gone for the summer. After a few weeks of noticing our sprinklers seemed to be on all day long and it was raining 3 or 4 days a week a neighbor shut off the main to the irrigation controller.

As I recall the water bill for that month was about $350.

I put in a new 9 Volt each May.
