I am very new to golf, (I'm a male). I've been to the driving range an played 9 holes a few times. Is there someone that is not in a hurry that can help me get started in playing a fun non-competitive game. I want to take advantage of the game, but I am very intimidated. I don't even know how to reserve a tee time etc. Now that he courses are in less demand I would like to try to expand my horizons. I live in the very South of the Villages in Hillsborough.
Thanks.

My suggestion is to ask references for a training pro and take lessons.

Go to the Golf Acadamy at Palmer Legends Country Club. Sign up for the New to Golf course that they offer. My wife recently took that course and loved it. Then choose exec courses with a 1 or 2 rating to start with. Please do not be concerned about being a beginner. That is the best thing about golf. Anyone can play with anyone. We were all beginners at one time. It really is not a probelm. Get out there and enjoy.

Contact Sandra Chester at Golf Your Best 352-751-5122. She is at the Oxford Driving Range on 301S. She has a male golf pro as well. or go to Golf Your Best, Inc. (GYBI) (352) 751-5122 office - Home (http://www.golfyourbest.com) and take a look at her golf packages. She makes the game rewarding and fun - and has an Intro To Golf program as well.
Most of all - play happy and enjoy the game.

Please take any or all of the suggestions above. Play happy and enjoy the game but first be directed by someone who can set you going the right direction and will teach you golf etiquette and ready golf. If you know these things, then you can play with anyone and have them and the rest of the folks on the course enjoy the game.

The Good Golf School holds a seminar every month at the Colony Recreation Center that includes how to make a Tee Time. Call the Tee Time Office @ 352-750-4558 to register for the next program.

first and foremost, it is a game, enjoy. if lessons aren't your thing, try signing up for the weekly mens day scramble. random team of 4 in which the 'pressure' if any is shared equally and your co-players will usually be happy to give you tips. lessons are the best way to start, before you learn bad habits,

I'd never been on a golf course in my life, and took the New to Golf course at the Sarasota Practice facility. Like you, I was very intimidated about the whole golf mystique and taking this course was the best thing I could have done. The instructor Craig Griffin (make sure you ask for him) takes all the anxiety out of the process. My course group was only 5 people, of whom two were fellow women with whom I've played repeatedly since finishing the course, and we've all had a blast. We don't keep score and just get out there to have fun, improve our skills, and be supportive of each others' desire to get better. The course costs about $250 for the entire week and you get several discount benefits upon completion. Best money I spent and I'm enjoying the game immensely. Good luck to you.
