My wife asked me if there is any GPS software that can be downloaded that shows the cart trails in The Villages. I have no idea. She doesn't want to get lost (again).

None that I am aware of. Garmin, for example, get their maps from Navteq. I think they have enough trouble trying to keep up with the streets much less cart paths.

Before I came down to TV I had all intention of going to all the rec centers and golf starter shacks and collect their locations to create a POI file that could be uploaded to a GPS. Well after getting here and driving around without a golf cart I found that this would be a huge task. I tried using Google Earth and Microsoft maps but they come up a little short. The photos do not show all the streets or if they do Microsoft or Google will not give the co-ordinates.

I think we all learned by getting in the cart and doing our best to get from A to B. In the process we (I assume most others as well) got lost many times. But there was always somebody that would stop and help. It's a learn as you go process.

Get a map at the Mercantile Store, or any Country Club. It has the cart (multi modal) paths marked in yellow. That will help. Also, a very helpful item to have in the cart is a compass.

Learning the paths/tunnels is an adventure. Enjoy it and press on.:welcome:

after you have been here a few weeks you will not need a gps to get around the villages. just buy the latest map and you will get around just fine. it is really simple

I have had a Garmin GPS for the last three years. Every year I buy the new software to get the updated maps. I've noticed that my '09 software does not have a lot of the new roads down by 466A. The maps can't keep up with the speed of the new building that's going on. Besides, getting lost is all part of the experience - doesn't matter how long you've been here.
