View Full Version : Golf cart for shorter people?

I'll be moving to The Villages soon and will be buying a golf cart. I can't sit back against the seat comfortably when driving the rentals I've had. My legs are too short to comfortably use the brake and gas pedal without sitting forward from the back of the seat.

Has someone else had this problem. Can you suggest a cart?

I have the same issue and don't own a cart, yet. I've noticed though, that some carts have adjustable seats, so I'm thinking that's just what we need!

There are carts that have adjustable seats, I don't know which they are, maybe someone on here will tell you. I'll tell you how I solved the "short" problem, at my sister's suggestion. I bought one of those pillows you see that people use in bed to sit up and read. It keeps me sitting up closer, it's very comfortable, and when my 6 ft. husband rarely drives the cart, we just remove it. I love it! It works well. She called it a Husband Pillow.

I'm vertically challenged too! A couple of years ago, I couldn't reach the pedals of a cart we were renting. I found out that the golf cart store in Ocala (Carts and Clubs, I think??) has pedal extenders for the Yamaha carts. They told me the extenders only fits the Yamahas. I tried the extenders in the store and they worked great!

Another option is pedal extenders for either/both the brake or gas pedal. I have a gas pedal extender but did not need one on the brake.

Ask your dealer to install them when you purchase the cart.

Adjustable seats really don't move very much. Most adjustable seats add almost $2k to the price of the cart. Extenders work better.

Pedal extensions. But if you share a cart, you might look at a "Back Buddy". It is a cushion that is easily attached to the back of the seat with velcro straps. It is curved to fit your back nicely. We purchased one for my wife. Easily removes when I drive. Works out nicely.

There are two things that may make the cart more comfortable. You can have the angle of the steering column reduced so the wheel is closer to you (less truck like) and you can get a pedal extender.

The pillow solution works....least expensive....and does not interfere with the others who may drive the same cart.

The pedal extender and the back buddy " are both available at the Villages Golf Cars garages.

My issue was that my arms were too short to comfortably steer, so I folded a pillow in half and attached it to the seat with two stretchy cords with balls on them (like bunji cords). When we take the pillow off, the cords keep it rolled so it fits in the well in the back.

dewilson: Carts & clubs is where I purchased my cart and one of the things that impressed me was the sales guy said you can pay a whole lot extra for an adjustable seat or purchase this extender which by the way he threw in free. I love when a merchant subscribes to the baker's dozen philosophy

I am 4'11" and bought a Ca Roadster. It fits me like it was custom made for me. My husband can drive it too, but he has to use a more spread eagle leg position. Where as I cannot drive his cart without a pillow behind me and one under me. Can't see out and cant reach the wheel or the pedals comfortably or safely.

Love my Ca Roadster! It is cute and comfy and super reliable!

Good luck finding a cart that works for you or a modification that works. The pedal extenders offered by Carts and Clubs are great BTW.

I'm 5'2" and put just a throw pillow behind me and I reach the pedals just fine. However, if I use the pillow, my seat belt won't go around me. So the pedal extenders may be better if you are on the heavier side.

How about a cart for the calorically challenged? More than a tilt wheel!

Keep it simple.
Add blocks to the pedals, just like Dad did for your tricycle.

Try an EZ-GO.

Atomic carts seem to have lots of adjustments.

On a more serious note, I have neighbors that have permanently attached blocks (with a non-slip surface) to the brake and accelerator pedals for their wives.

Although they are permanently attached, the husbands have said it doesn't take all that much to get used to them for themselves (one guy is 6'+).

Even though it is a small inconvenience for the husband, to a man they've said the gratitude from their wives more than makes up for it.

A couple of days ago I saw a lady driving a light purple/pinkish CA Roadster and thought it looked really kewl.

Do you have a top for yours and do you find any problems/issues in inclement weather? How about when golfing?

I've been thinking of getting one as a second cart, but haven't done a lot of research yet.

Thanks for any info. :)

Lots of answers for pedal extenders and pillows. We had them both and were just awkward most times. The pedal extenders works but than your arms are too short to comfortably steer. The pillow can be fastened, moved when someone else is driving but seemed to always be in the way and gets wet unless certain materials.
We went with the adjustable seats and YES they do move much forward enough to ride and steer comfortably while the passenger seat can be adjusted all the way back. The backs recline or go forward. BEST solution and creates for more comfortable driving daily.
The Villages Golf stores sells them and they cost between $1100-$1700 depending on how fancy you get. Still is in the price of the cart for resale later. If you have a cart, sell your old seat to reduce the cost

They are cute, aren't they!! Mine does have a roof. (with a surf board on top!) It also has side curtains that can be used for cold or rainy days.

It has a trailer hitch sort of thing that i put in place when golfing. It holds two bags like most golf carts. When it is removed, I can open the "rumble" seat, so that it will seat 4.

Great little cart! The front "hood" is a pretty large trunk space for groceries or other shopping. I will try to attach a photo, if I remember how.

dotti,

Very cute golf cart. I clicked once on the photo to make it larger, waited a few seconds then clicked on it again, and the photo is not sideways. Go figure. :gc:

No problem and thanks for the pic and info!

To me they really are the coolest carts I've seen, as I'm not a real fan of the Yesteryear types.

I guess I'm going to have to go shopping and researching more now, as the vision of a bright yellow one with red flames keeps popping up in my mind. :D

And the hood emblem is perfect. What is it from, as it doesn't look like the RR Flying Lady but is close?

Do you find the doors an inconvenience and is that why you have yours off?

Anyway, if I get closer to buying one I will ask some more questions.

Thanks again. :)

Agree, even with adjustable seats my wife uses pillow or back support.
