I cannot access TOTV using WiFi on either my iPhone or my desk top, it automatically sends me to a different site. However, I can access it on my iPhone if I shut the wifi off and use LTE.
I have no problem using wifi with any other website. Any ideas?

I could not get onto this site this evening with about 10 tries over a 10 minute period, and it was with my iPhone, away from home.
It first went to a small pop-up window saying something like "Congratulations! Apple wants to you know....". Then after disposing of that, everytime I tried to go to TOTV, the URL was converted to ww2.talkofthevillages.com and it kept saying "site not available". I retyped the ww2 to www. in the front, but it kept converting even when I shut down the browser, opened it with a new window, and typed in the correct address.
Later, I got on just like always. Not sure why that was but if it happened to others, admin ought to know.

Same thing with my Microsoft Windows 7 Google Chrome computer at 6:30 AM this morning.
Prism Century Link has a spoofer phisher targeting TalkoftheVillages users. Contact whatever your Internet Service provider is as they seem to be the source of this remote virus.

I have a Century Link tech here now and he's offering a temporary fix.He says they're working on a permanent solution. I opted to leave it as is because the temporary fix could effect other browsing capabilities

Thanks for posting that. I sent Prism Century Link an e-mail yesterday but they have not replied. This was about the phishing/spoofing of TOTV by some remote viruses.

I have CenturyLink without Prism and have the same situation. With LTE no problem, but my desktops and tablet are WiFi. Tapatalk app is also affected.

Just read on a neighborhood site that TOTV has been "hacked". Whatever that means? We are on Brighthouse wi-fi and currently not having these problems that some TOTV posters are having or perhaps had in the past few days.

I too am having this problem. I have two Windows 7 machines and have had the problem with Chrome, Firefox and IE. I am a Prism/Centurylink user.
I went to Eisenhower Rec center and logged in using WiFi to TOV no problem. I went home and tried my Android phone attached to Wifi and got in no problem. After reading this thread on my phone I plugged into the router with a cable and I am now on TOV. Prior to reading this thread I spent over an hour on the phone with Prism/Centurylink. The networking folks said there was no internet problem and shuffled me over to the PC folks. They tried to sell me a service to clean" my computer. (I already did system restores on both systems, ran virus checkers and reset my router) I guess I'll call them again tomorrow when have more time. Hopefully they will know more about this problem. The problem is definitely a browser redirect with a phishing scam.

I got on too on the Windows 7 computer just now with no phishing or spoofing. Still using the other computer at the moment as this one is logged into TOTV.
Thanks for everyone that worked on fixing this!!!

Seems like a hacker is targeting our demographic because this is the only site they see to have had this problem. Although I'm not sure but I heard other ISP'S have had this same problem recently. Please if this happens to you in the future don't panic and start paying for virus removal because although it feels like you have a virus and the messages you are receiving make you think you have a virus YOU DON'T. The problem is with your Internet provider. Just call them and let them know the problems you are having. This will save you aggravation & money.

Good to see things are now back. I tried with both a windows computer and a Mac and both did not work. That told me it was not my computer, but I did not think about the ISP. I actually wrote TOTV and heard no response....this made me think it might have gone out of business suddenly or something. Foolish me thinking that....adding 2+2 and getting 5. I would have thought TOTV would have made some type of statement on it. Glad everything is back!

I use a Samsung tablet and CenturyLink. I was being redirected to the same sites as mentioned in this thread. Downloading virus scan and clean apps didn't help. Just a few minutes ago I deleted my cache and cookies. Now the problem is solved. To be honest, I don't know if it was my actions that fixed it, or if my timing was very near CenturyLink or TOTV fixing it.

Glad to be back. Took almost three days here, but was only this site, so thought TOTV had been hacked, not CenturyLink. Would have been nice if an email had been sent out letting us know whom to contact.

Dear Jon,
We are sorry that you are having an issue with a possible virus. We would advise not only scanning your system but verify that your anti-virus is updated and in effect. We also recommend that the other devices on the network are also protected since they can also get infected through shared files and resources. Should you require assistance please contact our PC support department 1-855-328-1035.
I am glad that someone got through to Prism CenturyLink. I have become very used to boilerplate responses over the years.

I just got back on after several days. I had a IT guy working on it and thought TOTV had been hacked. He asked me to reboot the CenturyLink router, which I just did, and wala, I am on.

Except for the fact, that TOTV could be accessed if you did not use CenturyLink WiFi. As I said, I shut off the wifi on my iPhone and was able to access TOTV with LTE.

I have been having this problem for 2 weeks now. Our provider is AT&T Uverse, so it is not just Century Link. I spent an hour on the phone with them and they walked me through some steps to try and fix it. They told me to Clear Cookies/Cashes, Delete Browsing history, delete my link to TOTV in my bookmarks, and do a security scan, all of which I did, and I am still having the problem being diverted to WW2.talkofthevillages
which takes me to "GoodMayor". The Uverse rep said the virus must be coming from an advertisement on TOTV.

I was also one of the folks affected for several days. When the administrators get a complete understanding of what happened, I sure would appreciate a posting of a semi-technical explanation.
I had cleared all cookies, web cache, etc. and ran Malwarebytes and Spybot scans which found nothing. Yet both of my computers, Windows 7 and Windows 10, Firefox and Internet Explorer, were constantly redirected to malicious sites. I did not reset my router and yet yesterday I was suddenly able to connect. It seems to me the issue was fixed either at the TOTV web site, or with Century Link, my provider.

Please allow me to reply to this hack-virus-issue by shouting:
TOTV AND/OR CENTURYLINK OWES ALL THE AFFECTED USERS A DETAILED EXPLANATION AS TO WHAT HAPPENED, WHY (IF KNOWN), AND WHAT TO DO IF THIS RE-OCCURS.
Apparently a large ToTV user base was directly affected, some impacting their PCs with costs to clean or check their equipment. Rather than no communications, it would be professional for either or both suppliers to alert their customer base and clear the air.

Unless I've missed it, why hasn't the TOTV Administrators posted SOMETHING on this matter even if they can't explain it. To completely ignore the matter is not right!

they have on another thread and despite taltarzac's repeated tries to make this a virus or phishing scheme it was a domain/host issue as i stated repeatedly.

ALL,
I received an Email from ToTV regarding the connection/redirection problem.
It provides all of the info needed, no virus, the problem was with the server that hosts the ToTV site.
Look at your email, you should have the same info.

E-mail from TOTV Team--
3) The company that hosts the server that TOTV is on had the issue.
4) Any website on that server was being redirected.
5) We didn't have available updates sooner as we were waiting on the hosting company to fix and report back facts.
6) No user account or password was compromised as the TOTV software was secure and had no virus, malware, or corrupt files on it.
7) After the issue was fixed your ISP would be refreshing their data and this propagation time will vary in the amount of time to update. Century Link users seem to have been the most affected by this.
You are misrepresenting my position. I posted that this was phishing/spoofing on the Internet Service Provider. That still looks to be the case but it was done through the hosting company and not the Internet Service Provider. The hosting company was the one with the problem. And from what I saw on my computer someone was trying to misdirect TOTV users to get them to go to that 2www. site. That is spoofing or phishing.

I believe you insinuated TOTV had not paid their bills for their domain name and/or hosting, neither of which is true.
