Win10 back to Win7 attributes changed

I downloaded Windows 10 to my laptop that was running on Windows 7. Windows 10 changed ALL my MS Office file attributes to "read only". I switched back to Windows 7 and they were still "read only" files.

Is there any way to remove the "read only" attributes so I can work with my MS Office files and save the changed I make????????????:swear::Screen_of_Death:

Just right click your document folder select properties and uncheck read only.

If you do a google search on "cannot change windows read-only files", you will find that you are far from alone with this problem. The best solution I have found is in the form of a simple freeware program called Take Ownership. Once installed it offers an option to, as the name implies, take ownership of such files if you right-click on the file or folder.

What the OP has is an OLD OLD virus (malware hijack/ransom ware) that is a known issue. The EASIEST by far solution is to simply install a new drive ($50 or so) and fresh copy of Windows. Then just drag and drop the old profile information into the system. You can move it drive to drive, USB to drive or even OneDrive to drive.

The side benefit is the clean install of Windows. I am curious, why get rid of 10? There is a ton of bloatware on it but once cleaned up is a very good OS.

"Bloatware" is the things that are not Windows...games, Netflix, Zune, Bing, PurblePalace, and dozens of card games...

:clap2:Thank you the program fixed my problem in Win7. This weekend I will install Win10 on my new laptop and hopefully if I have the same problem in Win10 the program will also fix it there.
