You must have a doctor if one gave you a prescription for muscle relaxants. Did your blood test show that you were low in Potassium? Do not self medicate on Potassium, too much can hurt you. I see Dr. Hamilton Fish, an endocrinologist. You could call and ask the nurse if these symptoms are something he handles. If not see your doctor again. Have your blood tested again. If you are taking something with a diuretic it sometimes flushes out too much Potassium and the medication may need to be adjusted, but please don't do it yourself.

You might want to contact a vascular specialist to schedule a Vascular Ultrasound on your legs.

I have a personal trainer, recommends the following, take your body weight, divide it in half, that # is the # of oz of water you need to drink on a daily basis, to avoid being dehydrated, also wind blowing across exposed skin will dehydrate you,too

avoid soft drinks and alcohol

Honestly space out your water consumption-too much water can be toxic

Prescription "Liptor" or it's generic can cause muscle cramps that can be severe.

Gatorade works for me. If cramps wake me up, by the time I go to refrig and drink 4oz of Gatorade, my legs are relaxed by the time I get back in bed.

You might want to contact a vascular specialist to schedule a Vascular Ultrasound on your legs.

My cardiologist has posters on the office walls cautioning about Deep Vein Thrombosis, which can be indicated by pain. It can be life threatening.

You might want to consult your cardiologist if you have one and see if a vascular ultrasound is indicated. Otherwise, ask your primary care physician.

Stay healthy.

McKenzie's exercises are not only for the Spine/Back issues, but when conducted correctly, can prevent Cramping. Search these exercises for specific leg/foot cramping.

It could be dehydration/electrolytes loss. It could be a lack of potassium . It could be a side affect of a prescription drug. It could be you need to stretch the muscles in your legs.

As we age the legs are the first to go. I dehydrate easily so drink plenty but add about 2-4 oz of power aide to my water/ lemon-aide, etc to build up electrolytes. the formula of taking body weight and dividing by 2 is right except you should also consider that many foods also offer juices that provide fluid content. To determine if you are dehydrating often check the color of your urine. If its dark yellow then you are dehydrating. If it is clear like water you are over hydrated. the ideal color should be a light /pale yellow

I work my core and lower body because if I fall down I want to be able to get back up on my own

After visiting a doctor and with his/her permission I would begin to exercise your legs, etc.

Years ago when my son was playing HS football, early in the season when it was still hot, a lot of the players would cramp up. The team Doctor would make them take big gulps of yellow mustard, i.e. "French's", and that would eliminate the cramps. The last couple of years, especially after playing 18 and then working in the yard, I would get severe cramps, so I started doing the mustard and it really does help.

Tonic water with quinine, not diet version. I drink 4ozs before bed, additional during the day if needed. Works for me..

I put a bar of Irish Spring soap in my bed under the sheets and 90% of my leg cramps were eliminated.

My husband swears by the bar of soap. As long as it stays on his side of the bed, we both have a peaceful night.

I had thigh and foot and leg cramps so bad, I thought I would pass out. CQ 10 is what my doctor told me. After a few days no more cramps. I also drink pure cherry juice. Walmart has it. It is called Just Cherry Juice. Don't buy it unless it says just cherry.
Good luck.

Magnesium oxide 400 mg- once a day. Told by a Dr this would help and it does.

Irish Spring & Gatorade? You people are the best. I also know that my water intake was lower the past two days and the cramps are back with a vengeance. Thank's for the assist.

I had same issue a few years ago and turned out the Cholesterol lowering pill I was taking that was the cause. The Doctor had me stop taking it for 2 weeks and the pain stopped.

By leg cramps do you mean like a Charlie Horse-type cramp? I had these in my legs and feet every night for the longest time. I then got a bottle of magnesium pills. The first day I took one. No cramps that night. Continued taking them for about a week. Then I missed one day. Guess what happened that night. I had a cramp. Back on the magnesium pills and no more cramps. I take a pill for acid reflux and it is my understanding the pill messes with your ability to absorb magnesium.

Yellow mustard.....like French's......seriously, look it up. You swallow about a teaspoon of it. ( don't rub it on! You'll stain your clothes and look a bit jaundiced!😜)

My recommendation is to try coconut water. Very high in potassium.

It is sold at Publix.

Like Graciegirl, I have heard that leg cramps could indicate a potassium deficiency. I'd ask your doctor to check it.

Sounds like dehydration to me. Cramps are my first sign. Try a drink with electrolytes like G2.

I'll be honest, when I read this a few days ago I kind of rolled my eyes.

After an attack of a severe cramp on the inside of my right thigh this evening and feeling desperate, I tried it.

I won't swear that it wasn't the Gatorade, copious amounts of water, pushing in the muscle and trying to straighten it out or the mustard that worked...but something did.

Thanks. :ho:

My recommendation is to try coconut water. Very high in potassium.

The potassium in a 11 Oz container of Cocoa Viva is 620 mg! you would have to drink a whole lot of gatorade to get 620 mg.

We use it to make smoothies. But i also like to just drink it right before bedtime. I actually like the flavor and it has totaly stopped my leg and foot cramps. (foot cramps are THE WORST!!!!)

Give it a shot!

Not vinegar. You need Quinn's, which comes in tonic water. You can get tonic water with lime in it. My husband and I both have terrible leg cramps, until we started taking this. Take it at least before bed every night. You can take it anytime, but we had cramps at night so we take it before bed. I am sure this will help. Good luck
