John Smith started the day early having set his alarm

clock

(MADE IN JAPAN )

for 6 am.

While his

coffeepot

(MADE IN CHINA )

was perking, he shaved with his

electric razor

(MADE IN HONG KONG ).

He put on a

dress shirt

(MADE IN SRI LANKA ),

designer jeans

(MADE IN SINGAPORE )

and

tennis shoes

(MADE IN KOREA )

After cooking his breakfast in his new

electric skillet

(MADE IN INDIA )

he sat down with his

calculator

(MADE IN MEXICO )

to see how much he could spend today. After setting his

watch

(MADE IN TAIWAN )

to the

radio

(MADE IN INDIA )

he got in his

car

(MADE IN GERMANY )

filled it with

GAS

(from Saudi Arabia )

and continued his search

for a good paying AMERICAN JOB.

At the end

of yet another discouraging

and fruitless day

checking his

Computer

(Made In Malaysia ),

Joe decided to relax for a while.

He put on his

sandals

(MADE IN BRAZIL )

poured himself a glass of

wine

(MADE IN FRANCE )

and turned on his

TV

(MADE IN INDONESIA ),

and then wondered

why he can't find

a good paying job

in AMERICA .

Y'all gotta Keep this one circulating, please!

while being said in jest it is in fact the source of the problem.
It needs to be posted in the political forum....without manufacturing there is little left but being a service industry...can't and never will hire enough people with that.
The good old days are gone....and I am glad I lived them when we did!!!!!!!

Merry Christmas...BTK

Just curious how many people are serious about helping the USA. Beyond our homes, cars are the next major investment we make, how many of us are driving a Ford, Chrysler or GM car. Not interested in issues about which cars are better (foreign or domestic, this could be another thread) just curious what you drive, one word response is required, foreign or domestic (based on where company HQ is, not where it's built). I'll start, our family has 4 domestic cars.

Bought my first foreign car in 1976, a Honda CVCC. Since then I have owned 3 Honda Accords's, 6 Toyota's, (Tundra, Avalon, Tacoma, Prius) 2 Fords, 2 GM, 1 Infiniti, 1 Mercedes, and have always given US companies first chance. I buy for value. We can still be the best value, but are not quite there yet. Best car I ever owned was an Infiniti and I will buy another one some day soon.

Not seeing a lot of responses here as I suspect most would be that they drive a foreign car. When the gov't spends Billions of $$$ to bail out the USA car companies (which we are all paying for) and our retired workers continue to lose benefits and our children have no jobs, I suggest you go out in the driveway and hug your Toyota....GN

I drive a Toyota made in the USA. Your Ford may have been made in Mexico or Canada.

Back to the original post, it is not very easy to be a manufacturer in the USA. You have so many federal, state and local hoops to jump through. This is before you even begin to address the labor issues.
Otherwise, I make a conscious effort to buy goods produced in the USA. It is difficult but it can be done. Why do we have to buy towels from China?? It was no time ago that we had towel mills galore in the south.
I also get crazed when I see all the food coming in from China. No thanks. I look at every label. I am not buying food produced in China. Read your food labels carefully...especially fish, shellfish, and fruits.

Thanks sam for your input (especially the recommendation to look at food labels for foreign origin), as I said originally, I think it's more important to look where the car company has it's headquarters, not where the car is built. Don't get me wrong, the fact that some are now being built in the USA is a good thing, but I suspect they did it more for their own benefit not ours. Not trying to split hairs just trying to make a point that if you really care about America then you should be trying to support our domestic companies for the good of us all.

GN,

This is a good little survey and topic. I wish it could be in a different forum so that more people would see it and join in. Maybe in Non-Villages topics. It's not exactly political. It is really about life as we have seen it. We have true perspective on this.

And the Boomermobile is American. It might even be considered an icon of the American auto industry. We love it. Our first. Sadly, probably our last. And it runs just fine.

I don't think it's that simple.

Well, I drive a Toyota Camry cuz I thought it was the best car with the least maintenance, which suited my needs.

I'm also an avid reader of labels and If I have a choice I will avoid anything made in China or elsewhere - especially food.

Just out of curiosity..... I googled "made in the USA" and came up with lots of sites. One called madeintheusa gives you a search mode to look for products. So, if one really wanted to support US companies, it is possible !

Furthermore, I LOVE shopping in thrift shops and have found lots of wonderful vintage clothing, high quality, well made, MADE IN THE USA :pepper2:

Have had soooo many and keep them a long time usually. Had one of the first Ford Mustangs out; was on a list and managed to get early delivery. Had Caddy's, Buick Regal, Nissan, couple of Camero's, a Mercedes SL500 convertible/hardtop (a real dud), and now scoot around in a white Chrysler Sebring convertible and love it. Bill has the sensible vehicle, a Dodge Caravan and that's a great car as well.
