Is Rob Newton still there? I always enjoyed listening to him on the radio. I miss that station and wished it was on the internet so I could listen in.

I am too, now if I can get it on my internet radio in my bedroom, that'd be great. :) :) I have a Logitech internet radio. I'll see if I can get the Tune In on it.

I don't think the music they play is as good as it was 2 years ago. Seems something changed....? more new.....kinda like the oldies more..

just my opinion.....anyway...

I think they are sort of facing a demographic dilemma. As a new generation of retirees start moving down here, their version of "oldies" music is much newer than say the 70+ residents.

I think they are doing an OK job of providing a variety. But honestly, it's not my No. 1 preset.

It would be nice if they arrived in the "20th century" and started to stream their station.

That's just it, they're in the "20th Century". They need to move into the current "21st Century".

Nice article about Rob Newton in the April Style magazine, Villages Edition.
Its online but you have to jump thru too many hoops to view.
Music on his new website is just the beginning of what he has planned.

I agree. The music has changed from 50's and 60's to a lot of 70's music. They are changing with the "times".

When we came down here 7 yrs ago...they played 50's and 60's music. Around 3 or 4 yrs ago....they began to do more 70's and 80's (my kids genre of music). I e-mailed the station just to ask and was told by the guy on the air...the station manager decides and he just plays it. Not sure that's what truly happens or not. But he didn't really answer my question of whether there was a big change. Now...today you'll still hear that genre still being played and the (oldies) of the 50's and 60's is played mostly in the evening, I believe. I'm generalizing but if you shop on the "north" end of T.V. the folks look a bit older...as one goes further "south" you'll see the boomers. Folks who look much younger.

Do they still play the kind of music at night that's supposed to be rather quiet? I know when I lived there up until 2007, (July), they had easy listening night music. And I thank all of you for your nice replies.

Forty years from now they'll be playing Justin Beiber. And not just on the radio, that's what will be in the squares as well.

I heard someone say the other night that there may be a Beibermaniac club forming in the distant future.

...they don't stream.

I was kinda surprised at that too. I guess they figure the target audience is so localized, there is no need.

Many AM stations around the country are adding low power FM "translators" to try hang on to their listeners who don't have AM radios or are fed up with low fidelity, static, and weak signal at night. A low power translator would easily cover The Villages and greatly increase the sound quality.

There is another local AM station that plays oldies. It is WLBE 790 AM in Leesburg.

IMHO, streaming would be a great marketing tool for WVLG. It would also let snow birds and other part time residents keep up with the activities going on here in TV. I can't believe that the cost could not be underwritten by a sponsor. I was involved with a low power FM in Dayton, Ohio before moving to TV that streamed local HS football games for the Wayne Warriors. The whole cost was paid by a donation from the Booster Club.

If the station really is an arm of the developer, why wouldn't they want to get the word out about TV by streaming on the internet?

I would like to see WVLG streaming as well. I seem to recall an older thread where it was stated WVLG didn't want to pay the music royalty fees.

Sun City Center has a streaming station that can be picked up on TuneIn radio. If they can do it we should too.

This is something I've asked for in the last two surveys. I don;t have any AM radios except in my car!

I would love it - it would be great to be able to listen when we are not there. It would also be great if you could get the Daily sun mailed up north
