Hi any of you villagers concerned over the Zika virus? We are thinking of moving to the villages and are a little bit worried over the mosquito problem now in Florida. Thanks

I can't speak for everybody, but in the three years that I have been living in The Villages, I can't remember ever being bitten by a mosquito, despite living in a neighborhood surrounded by storm water collection ponds. Whoever manages mosquito control apparently does a good job.

All the cases I've heard about on the news are due to people traveling outside the country.

I've seen fewer mosquitoes here than I saw back in Massachusetts in the summertime. I think it's because they spray for them.

It's well known by all mosquitoes that they are not allowed due to deed restrictions.

From what I see, the Zika virus causes flu like symptoms. The real danger is to pregnant women, and we don't have too many of them in The Villages!!

Think positively. There are far more mosquitos where you currently live than here in TV.

Having come from NY/CT and hearing about all the horrible possible weather conditions, I can honestly say that all those things haven't come to pass. I originally was terrified of the stories I heard but one needs to calm their concerns. Having been here for three years and find FL weather and all other conditions to be much more favorable than NY. Snow, "yuch"!!!!
The same is true for the Zika virus. A non issue in my point of view.
The worst complaint is dealing with the summer heat and that is bearable without much of a problem.

Too funny, thanks :1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:
I also agree with previous comments, that I have seen very few mosquitoes in 2.5 years that we have been living here. TV seems to do an excellent job of spraying for these critters.

Agree with most of what is posted here with one exception... When we were in The Villages last year during September, there were plenty of mosquitos outside when we left the screened lanai. When we walked to Brownwood at night, we encountered very few. That tells me they do a good job of spraying the Commercial areas. We also plan to expand our lanai with a birdcage when we move in full time and carry a bottle of bug spray with us in the golf cart. I am not too worried about it and I don't think anyone else should be either.

If you are already worried about such things you might reconsider moving here . There will no doubt be many issues unique to here that will bother you such as :
Seat saving , kids at adult only pools , golf cart driving and parking , service dogs at dining establishments , dog poop , wind chimes on your neighbors lanai , crowded grocery stores and many many more .

I would add that they do a great job of spraying throughout TV, using both trucks (mostly) and helicopters.

I'm personally much more worried about folks who are clueless on how to navigate roundabouts and operating golf carts.
And don't even get me started on those in the grocery store, that don't understand you can't just come blasting out of one of the aisles into the main thoroughfare without looking/yielding. :)

How would you propose to deal with the grocery store issue ? Perhaps a system of " Even and Odd " first digits on your auto / golf cart plate ". Such as was used in " Metro Areas " during the first " gas crisis " back in 1974 .
We could even further refine this system with assigned time/ slots . IE say you have a 2 as the first digit on your plate but the second digit is odd then you can enter the grocery store on say any Tues. , Weds. , Thurs . anytime after Noon .
In the evenings say after 7 PM anyone can enter the grocery store except men who are not accompanied by a Female .
Further the grocery store must at all times have an adequate supply of each and every item listed as a " BOLO " or a " special " in the current circular on hand so no one must accept a " rain-check ".
Finally, Men shopping alone would be restricted to shopping only during evenings after 8 PM regardless of their license plate numbers .
Hopefully the implementation of this simple system which could be Pilot Tested during the upcoming " slow season " would go a long way toward eliminating the irritation which many residents experience at the grocery stores .

That sounds pretty complicated, for something that simple common sense and courtesy could solve.
If you're coming out of an aisle to the front or back thoroughfare, simply slow down and look before pushing your cart into traffic.
PS. I was mostly being facetious, but it sounds like maybe I hit a nerve and if so...sorry.
But since we're on the subject, I wish folks would also show a little courtesy and not leave their cart in the middle of the aisle while wandering off looking for something. Then again, it's kinda fun to bash them out of the way. :D
(Let's see how hard I get jumped on for that. LOL)
