Cell Phone Speakers

Sitting here at B&N sipping my coffee while the woman at the next table holds a not-so-private conversation with her phone in speaker mode. Lately, I have noticed an increase in people doing the same. Are they not aware that people around them can hear every word uttered by the person on the other end? Perhaps they feel they can hear better that way than when they hold the phone to their ear. It is annoying enough to hear loud talkers on their phones without hearing both sides of the conversation. Maybe I need another frappuccino.
