We are moving to TV in three weeks and renting while looking for a place to live. We have BC/BS and Medicare. We need to find new doctors.

I will need to get my blood pressure medication refilled in July and it is time for a yearly physical, so I am looking for an internist. Do any of you have any recommendations?

Eventually, I will need to find a dermatologist, urologist, and dentist, and my wife will need to find a gynecologist. We will greatly appreciate any help you can give us. Thanks, Bob and Suzanne

Internist - Angel Tafur, MD. (352) 350-6241
Urologist - Mark Dersch, MD (352) 430-0705
Dermatologist - Thi Tran, DO. (352) 751-6565

You will find many opinions about physicians, so you might want to do some research. The State of FL has a lot of information on physicians - license information, law suits, med schools, training. Satisfy yourself that you are selecting a physician whose skills and training will match your needs.

If you want to get an appointment for a physical in July, I would urge you to select an internist first. That internist should also be able to refer you to the specialists, or at least provide you with the names of several you might contact.

You'll get many recommendations from others here. My wife and I worked in healthcare for more than 40 years, so we have our own criteria for selection.

You should be fine with your insurance plans, but ask the physicians office when you call for the first time. Do not wait for a visit to get there and run into a problem.

And last but not least, welcome to TV. it's a wonderful place.

On past reviews about primary care doctors on the TOTV site you will find some who do not like Dr. Angel Tafur because of his abrupt style.

After a somewhat rocky start I have had an excellent relationship with him. I have found him to be the most thorough primary care doctor who I have had in decades. When I occasionally fail to meet a goal that we have agreed upon he can be a little snippy, but it is for my good.

When I needed clearance for some really serious surgery, he encouraged me to do it to improve the quality of my life. He also explained the procedures that would be performed in greater detail than the surgeon who actually did the operation.

In addition to his private practice, Dr. Tafur oversees the Freedom Pointe rehab facility. He practices at The Villages Regional Hospital and the hospitals affiliated with the Leesburg Regional Medical Center.

I was referred to Dr. Tafur by my cardiologist.

Although I am presently living full time in Tampa now, I still return to TV for appointments with Dr. Tafur.

Dbussone and Carl, thank you very for your recommendation. I called Dr. Tafur's office and it appears they accept our Medicare and BC/BS insurance, so I will be setting up an appointment with them.

I forgot to mention that I have Medicare and BC/BS, and that they accept both.

Also, Dr. Tafur's wife, Lauren Tafur is the ARNP in his office. She is a very pleasant person. She may be the one who you see on your first visit. Be sure and have a list of all your medications.

Interestingly, Dr. Tafur's father was a doctor who ran his own clinic in Peru. As a child, Dr. Tafur rode the halls of his father's clinic on a bicycle and dreamed of someday also being a doctor.

For your wife, I heartily recommend Dr. Doug Moffett. He has offices in Leesburg and The Villages, is patient, capable and knowledgeable.

Thanks very much for your suggestion, Patty, and I will make sure she sees your post. However, I think she would prefer a woman doctor, so do you know of any woman doctors that your friends recommend?

Pardon me while I quiz these folks some more. They haven't responded to how much it is to have them visit you at home, and I see their address is Lake Mary which is Orlando for all practical purposes. Who are the doctors involved who would be visiting folks in The Villages and where would their local office be???
