Well they filed Chapter 11 as my furniture sits in there warehouse.

They have held it in storage for a few months till my return to TV.

I had setup a delivery for this Wednesday to find out they filed on 12/19/08.

Right now I am looking to find what courthouse they filed in so I can go

during the case and try to see the judge. All items are paid in full months ago

so I hope I didn't get screwed. If anyone has any info where I can go find

any info like were to go it will sure help.

Go to their website, www.fcgalleries.com, where you will get all the information you should need.

In addition there are 2 articles in the Leesburg Daily Commercial, www.dailycommercial.com. The first is dated 12/24 and the second is dated 12/30.

Darn, sorry to hear this..... Furniture Country was our favorite local furniture store...we bought several pieces from them. I sure hope those who have deposits down will either get their order or their money back.

This may be the first of many retail closings to come...

I wish you luck bubbaLarry.

I saw postings on Contracters and Services forum and thought perhaps this posting should also be in this general forum. Country Furniture of Leesburg has filed for chapter 11. I for one have ordered furniture from them and was waiting for delivery at end of Feb. Does anyone know of more details? Such a shame, such a nice store.

When I called their phone number, there is a recording that states they will be closed for a while getting ready for a sale. Nice for people who can take advantage of the sale, not so nice for those of us who have paid but not had delivery yet.

Peazoup, I would suggest you pm Bubbalarry in the other thread on this subject, cause he has a lot of information on the status of his furniture order, which according to him last night, was to be delivered this morning at 8:30. So hopefully, he got his order. He got in contact, I believe, with the lawyer handling the bankruptcy, so its a matter of digging a little deep to get your information. Let me know if I can help...

The name of the store is Furniture Country Galleries, although most just call it Furniture Country.

We ordered furniture from Furniture Country in July and August (quite a bit of furniture to be exact). The furniture they delivered had a streak on the wood (they sent someone out to our home to fix that), scratches in the glass on the china closet, a cabinet containing a wine rack that had scratches on top of the cabinet, a bedroom mirror that has an "X" on it that doesn't come off, a Lazy Boy loveseat has an opening at the seat and again at the top where the two seats come together. That was supposed to be reordered, I wonder if that ever was. We're still waiting for delivery of 2 lamps tables in the living room, a coffee table, and two lamp tables in the bedroom, a bed frame and headboard, and a LazyBoy sofa couch in the den. I kept calling them to see why it was taking so long to deliver the furniture. Got the same standard excuses. We're in PA right now, expected back in the Villages in Jan. This is so disappointing and we have put down money on things we're still waiting for (well over $2,000). None of our order ever came in a complete shipment. Please keep us posted about your furniture delivery and the shape it came in. And what will happen to our deposit??? I'm afraid we're going to lose it and also not have problems I stated taken care of.

Thanks to all including Kathie and Nonie for their kindness. I am providing to all the name of the Attorney and lawfirm handling the bankruptcy.

As mentioned I was asked to call them after this Friday for follow up info.

No furniture has been delivered and may never get here.

My wife and I intend on following this companies activities. They claim a sale

Does anyone have any updates on the Furniture Country Galleries situation? Thanks

Peazoup
01-12-2009, 06:17 PM
Country Furniture Galleries is no more. A Liquidation company has taken over the remaining store assets/showroom furniture and sooner or later will hold a sale. What I think is so terrible, is that they were still taking customer's orders/money when they were fully aware that they were going belly-up.
Do not expect a call from them even though they say they will be in touch with customers who had orders in house. Don't expect to get a call back from the legal firm handling the bankruptcy case either. If you paid cash for your furniture but haven't received it, you probably won't, nor will you be refunded. If you paid by credit card, call them and have them send you a dispute form. There's a good chance you'll get reimbursed through your credit card company. There's a lesson to be learned here.
I got the above information from the manager of a furniture store just down the road from Country Furniture Galleries.
Good luck to all who put their trust in these &%)#@" people!!

Peazoup I sent you a PM.

For those who aren't aware Furn Country galleries are selling/closeout sale at Wildwood.

I was able today to get my furniture with a little hassle, but its now in my possession.

Directions: Go down Rt 301 into Wildwood and at the Sunoco gas station turn left and go about 1+ miles look for warehouse on right.

They are opening up again tomorrow at 12 noon. Good Luck.

My wife and I really got lucky today when I decided to go to IHOP instead of
Mom-Pops restaurant in Belleview. We saw all these signs on 466 and followed them till we saw the devil who held my furniture hostage since Xmas and made our house here in TV a miserable one for the past 3 weeks.

Man is it a happy one now.

We also ordered furniture from this store way back in September, we kept calling to find out about what was taking so long and they always said it would be here in a few weeks, the manufacturer was having problems. The middle of December we received two pieces of our order, but the rest of our set was not delivered. Just before Christmas we called to check on the rest of our order and SURPRISE, we heard the recorded message saying they were no longer in business.

I had called the attorney, just got a voicemail, never a reply. Also called the credit card company (Broyhill), they sent us a form to dispute the amount we owe, we filled it out and returned the form, but have not received a reply to date.

Guess my husband and I may be taking a drive down to Wildwood this afternoon. Wish us luck!

Update: We went to the warehouse sale at Furn Country Galleries today in Wildwood. Much of the furniture has been picked over but they continually bring out new items onto the floor for sale. The prices are great. I bought an upholstered bench for $88... I'm excited. The manager of the Leesburg store was there and told me that they would be holding a sale in the Leesburg store in about 10 days to 2 weeks as soon as they reconcile all the outstanding orders that haven't been fulfilled yet. So, we're waiting to see what else they have in Leesburg. Too bad, they had beautiful furniture.

I am sick, I asked that when they bring out that piece or like it to contact us so we can come by and grab it. As usual they lied. Kathie1 give me back my piece.

Only kidding. What color ws the upholstery?

Anyone who has money and is waiting for stuff has to go down and check out to see if there pieces are in the warehouse.

My husband and I ordered a dining room table, four chairs, a sofa and loveseat back at the end of October. We paid $1300, or half of the cost when we placed the order. At that time, I was told that it would probably arrive just before Christmas.

I called twice, once at the beginning of Dec, then again in the middle and both times spoke to the office gal who answers the phone, at no time did she mention a bankruptcy, or the fact that my order was not going to be fulfilled. Basically when it comes down to it, she lied to me when she said all orders were taking 10 to 12 weeks to fulfill and for me that would mean the middle of Jan.

When I heard of the bankruptcy, my husband and I went to the warehouse and spoke to a gentleman there who assured us they would be still be fulfilling outstanding orders through this other company, Promotions something or other.... and informed of us the warehouse sale starting the next day.

We went back to the warehouse during the sale and spoke to a lady from this company; she pulled our file and told us a letter had been sent out with a form we needed to complete with our order information. I still do not understand why this needed to be done, as when she pulled my file she had all the information right there in front of her.

But true to her word, I did receive a letter and form in the mail, which I completed and sent back registered mail with a return receipt. I got the return receipt back yesterday, so at least I know I fulfilled my end of the deal thus far.

So now, I guess I just sit back and wait.

I did also recieve in the mail, a letter from the attorney handling the case, inviting us to join a meeting of creditors yesterday morning, but we were unable to attend. The letter also stated that we had until April 27th (I think) to file a claim to get our money returned.

I too have furniture already paid for but not delivered. They had a liquidation sale at their warehouse over on 44. I'm not sure if it is still going on but I went and spoke to Chris who assured me that the furniture would be delivered as they are working with another company to fulfill orders etc. I am taking him at his word as he seems sincere. Hope I am right.

We contacted our credit card company and have done charge backs with them for the damaged furniture they delivered to us (3 pieces) and for other items not delivered that down payments were made on. We are furnishing an empty house. Orders were placed for furniture with Furniture Country in July & August with promises for trips, cruises & mileage refunds (which we never will see!) I find it hard to trust this company anymore since they have been lying to us for some time. Also, another kicker: they want cash or a certified check delivered to them the day before delivery before any furniture will be delivered to you for open orders. What if you have damaged furniture that you discover after the furniture truck leaves your premises? I have a Lazy Boy loveseat that has gaps in the seat area and also where the top of the chairs join. We were promised a replacement for that. The only recourse for this is to hire a certified Lazy Boy tech thru White Furniture Co. and pay $75.00 for them to come out & look at it and an additional fee for fixing it (~$150). I will keep you posted. Good Luck to All of You who are dealing with this mess!

Here is a postscript to my saga. After two months, my credit card company contacted me and has credited my account for the $1100 that was a down payment for furniture paid to Country Furniture Galleries. If anyone has gone that route, it does take about 2 months.

clearance sale now for a month and the place is full of furniture. One would expect to see space starting to show up from the "clearance" sale.

Myself, I think it is their new mode of operating. Almost every city has a furniture, appliance or carpet that has been going out of business for the last 20 years.....Furniture Company, I think, is now one of those.

We went there today and were astonished to see such outrageous prices. If they are trying to liquidate, they are making quite a profit in my opinion. I have furniture shopped for the last six months since we bought our new home in Hadley and I have a fair idea of what a reasonable price is for most items. My husband and I thought their prices were ridiculously high, even with the discount. The accessories were WAY over priced too in our view.

I think that someone is making money on this chapter 11.

In New York we actually call them "The Going Out of Business Stores". They usually sell cameras, electronics, imported art, furniture, rugs ete., etc.
Prices usually higher than retail!

I got a dining room set for over 50% off in Furniture Country in Leesburg. However, they are only taking 10% off most furniture. If you go to the back of the store, they do have some 50% off furniture. The sales person informed me that I could talk with the manager for a better deal. They charge 6% or minimum charge of $70 for delivery. Brothers on 441 in Leesburg also has a liquidation sale going on. It was 40% off, but has changed to 30% off, as merchandise was going too fast. Delivery is a flat $49. I had to really give the manager a hard time to get the 40% off.

If I were you I would contact the village movers and tell the people at the furniture store you would be coming to get your stuff. There is NO reason why it can't be delivered if it is there. Or tell them you will take a second choice. Do it now. This smells of some kind of treachery if you ask me.

Yes, but in my opinion, there prices are much more than keystone. (Double the actual cost) Find something there from Broyhill and check the Furniture Direct store..or whatever they call the old Southern Lifestyles at Spanish Springs.

We are still dealing with Furniture Galleries regarding our order from September 10, 2008. We are in contact with a Roberta, who keeps telling us we will be receiving our furniture. It is now six months and we want to forget about it.

Unfortunately we went through the delayed billing promotion which is with Broyhill Credit Services. I have written to this company telling them I have not received my furniture and to please correct the billing and show a zero balance. I keep getting letters back saying that they have a contract from me saying I will pay for the furniture when it is received, guess the contract I signed when I ordered the furniture back in September 2008. We were sending letters because we wanted to have everything we have done in writing.

After receiving the letters, we have called Broyhill Credit Services several times, we speak to a representative who cannot give us any answers. We ask to speak to a supervisor, only to be put on hold. We have waited for over an hour each time and no one ever comes to the phone. We have gone to the store to speak to Roberta, but we are told she is busy. We have sat at the store and waited, but except for one time, she never appears. The one time we saw Roberta was last month and she promised our furniture would be delivered before the middle of March. It is now the middle of March, no furniture.

Any advice on what we can do. We are getting billed for furniture we have not receivedand I doubt will ever receive. I want to be able to go out and order new furniture from another store, but with this billing hanging over my head, I am afraid to do so. How can I be held to a contract that said I would have my furniture in eight to ten weeks, and it is now six months.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Screw them

You need to do what I did and thats contact your credit card company if you used it to order the furniture. Fax the CC company and even mail them by certified mail copies of your order showing date along with copies of your statemant showing those charges. Write a letter along with the documents stating that you ordered and haven't received any of it and that you contacted the merchant and found they have gone out of business. DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT TELL THEM THEY FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY. DO NOT TELL THEM OF YOUR CONVERSATION WITH THE MANUFACTURER BROYHILL.

You have protection under the law as a consumer not to be ripped off by these furniture businesses.

So if you bought with a credit card your OK.

Good luck and please keep us posted.

P.S. on't be surprised to find that they may have sold your furniture during one of there close out sales.

We found our sofa/love set on the floor being sold at the same price we paid for it. So don't believe the bull about close out sales. These people lie, lie, lie.

Damn them for trying to sell my stuff. We got it and still called our CC company. Damn losers.

Update: ......... I bought an upholstered bench for $88... I'm excited.

New update for Bubba and others, the wonderful bench I bought, totally fell apart, can't be glued, can't sit on it, its a piece of garbage. Not made of wood, cause wood glue wouldn't hold the legs on, instead the legs totally split down the center. Might as well throw the damn thing out. Think I'll sit it on columns of bricks, hopefully the thing doesn't crack down the middle. What a rip off all around!!

I have been contacted and informed that my order is in and ready to be delivered or picked up. So tomorrow I am going to pick up our Broyhill dining table and four chairs, and Klausner sofa and loveseat.

I have to admit that for the longest time I really had my doubts that this closeout company was going to really pull through for those that had open orders. But now I am glad I waited and pleased that they have lived up to thier promises to me.

I am assuming if I have any issues with my furniture I will deal directly with the manufacturer, hopefully there will be no need for that.

I am very happy to report that the chargebacks we did with Furniture Country have been recredited to our CC account. It pays to put purchases on a credit card because you have recourse when you have a dispute with a company. We heard a story the other day about a man who wrote a check for over $4,000 for a downpayment on furniture he purchased at Furniture Country who will probably never see it again!!! We went out and repurchased our missing pieces of furniture at Southern Lifestyles and Showcase Direct who had the furniture in Stock. Key word: in Stock!!!

This was the worst company my wife and I have ever dealt with! I remember the multiple damaged deliveries, the hours of waiting on "hold", the months of waiting for special order piece that, when it finally came, had the wrong finish and also had to go back. I remember telling one of their Leesburg store managers that they were too incompetent to be in business. He had no reply! Except for the loss of area jobs, good riddance!
