in the face of all that has been said to not do so?
His opening remarks today are the perfect example of a lawyer hiding behind or using the "letter of the law" to do as he sees fit.
And then to have their black congressman espouse who would turn down the only black candidate being appointed to the Senate.
My 2 cents....el Blago is flaunting he will do as he :cus:well pleases (as he has been doing) regardless the will of the people of Illinois, or the Democratic party or the leaders in Washington. Now lets see if those who stated unequivically they would not support his appointee....no matter what....turns out.
In my opinion, Burris erred in accepting the controversial appointment.
Anybody want to make a bet on the outcome, now that they have spit in the face of the public as well as the nation's lawmakers AND reinforced it with the race card....absolutely the epitome of screw we the people and do what ever.....criminal or not. Who would accept such an appointment from such a low life criminal?
Only in America as the saying goes.

Burris was generally regarded as an OK guy in Illinois. While he's from Centralia in central Illinois, one doesn't get as far as he has without being well-wired into the machine politics of the state.
If I recall, he's 73 years old, and some think that he's only a "placeholder" until 2010. Having said that, there are older Senators than him and there's no guarantee he wont run again. With Blago's backing, he may not even win the 2010 primary, but there's no guarantee of that either.
As I understand the Illinois Constitution and the Senate rules, it's not altogether certain that Burris' seating can be prevented. So I guess, given the long list of other important issues facing the Senate and the Congress, how much energy and time should be expended on a purely political issue such as trying to prevent Burris from becoming a U.S. Senator? If it were for six years, it would probably be worth the effort. But there will be another election in 2010 and the public gets another shot at electing rather than appointing a Senator then.
What is most distasteful about this situation is that the punk Governor of Illinois and his sharpy lawyer seem to have beaten both the system and the desires of an overwhelming majority of the residents of Illinois.
The bigger question seems to be: why didn't the Illinois General Assembly vote for a special election when they had the chance a couple of weeks ago? I'm certain the answer is politics.
Disgusting.

him accepting the appointment by a tainted Governor....in the face of the opposition stated by the people of the State of Ill, the Ill legislature, the Senate and Congress overwhelmingly against an appointment...accepting the position in light of all the above he is not much better than his appointee in disregarding not only the will of the people but every political category from State to Federal.
Burris, like Blagolotavitch is counting on the letter of the law to save their day.
As I have said before, the trait I dislike about lawyers is they either use or hide behind the letter of the law....NOT to do what is right....but to further their own purpose.
There may not be anything they are doing that could be illegal....that does not make it right...no more than a lawyer defending a murderer and getting the case tossed on a technicality...legal yes....right, absolutely not.
Therefore, Burris, in my opinion, is no better than Blago...another unclean politician.

If Burris had an ounce of good in him, he'd have told the punk governor that he wasn't interested. If all those who would be tainted declined his nomination, he'd be left with only himself to nominate. If he chose that option, wouldn't THAT cause an uproar throughout the country.
Frankly, the way Blago is acting, I think the guy has a psychological problem. It's as if he's on another planet.
