I saw what looked like surveyors out yesterday on the way to Doggie Doo Run Run which is up CR101 near the intersection of CR104.
My friend Whit mentioned that he had heard a rumor from a reliable source that they were going to do road work on CR101.
They did it about 5-6 years ago if my memory is right with repaving and a little widening.
It could definitely use re-paving now. Has this been budgeted by the County for repair? Does anyone know when this will happen?
This is about a mile north of the Southern Trace Shopping Center. Belvedere becomes CR101 when it crosses CR466.

It looks like they are getting ready to do something on CR101. No information yet though that I have seen. Projects | Sumter County, FL - Official Website (http://sumtercountyfl.gov/221/Projects)

I heard from an unreliable source that they're going to repave CR 101 this summer. It needs it.
I'm sure we'll get notification before it happens.

It looks like it will happen sooner than later.
I heard they were going to remove some tree roots and center stripe and side stripe the road, no widening.

I talked to Scott this morning. The plan is 101 will be closed for 90 days and they will be rebuilding 101, curbs, drainage the whole works. Detour will be 103 north to 104. 104 is the road that comes out at DDRR driveway. He said the plan is not to block their driveway so they plan on being open. It wil be worth the detour for 90 days.

90 days? That's quite a project. I wonder why it does not show up in the Sumter County Building Projects and the like unless I am looking in the wrong spot?
What about the people in Parkwood and the church goers at UCC?? United Church of Christ at The villages - Home (http://uccatv.weebly.com/) Church Calendar - United Church of Christ at The villages (http://uccatv.weebly.com/church-calendar.html)

I don't know, I would imagine that they will make some accommodation for the folks that will be affected. I think that the construction will start where the road narrows now, so Parkwood would not be affected going south. If 104 is the detour than I guess the work would stop at 104 and maybe at a later time extend it north past 104. Scott is very excited about it since the drainage will be a great benefit for the property owners along that stretch.

Glad to hear Scott and Laura got some good news. They sure deserve it.

It sounds like this is a 120 Day Project costing close to $900,000.
This is going by the sign they have about the Project -- the company in charge, cost, duration but no other details.
The detour is up but you can get to DDRR north on CR101 right now as the work is north of the intersection at CR101 and CR104. You do have to watch out for construction vehicles.

I looked at the CR101 Improvements sign and it says it is funded by the Sumter County Board of Commissioners and estimates the cost at $892,460.00.
The company is C.W. Roberts Contracting.
I will look for more information online about this and keep an ear open at Doggie Doo Run Run and other places I might run into people who might have some reliable information.
I may check out other places in the Villages to walk Beau and myself though if the construction project becomes a problem with getting to the dog park easily.

Thanks that helps quite a bit. Swale I assume is for drainage. Stormwater Management - Grassed Swales (http://www.lakesuperiorstreams.org/stormwater/toolkit/swales.html)

Letter to Editor in online newspaper:
If it has been awhile since you’ve traveled north on CR 101 between 466 and CR 102, you might want to revisit this 2-mile stretch of road. Prepare to be shocked by the devastation. Until a week ago, 28 massive oaks stood along this little-traveled roadway. Now all are gone, and it seems that many more await felling. This is a travesty. The Sumter County Board of Commissioners should be ashamed. Not only are these grand trees gone, but so are the nesting habitats of hawks and other birds. The Glenview golf course is now more visible from the road. So are some homes within The Villages. Good-bye privacy. A year ago, a big flap ensued when a few large oaks were felled in one of The Villages neighborhoods. Where is the outcry over this present situation? I would like to see this project halted immediately and reassessed. There has to be a better answer.

I played Glenview this week and it WAS shocking/sad to see all of those magnificent oaks butchered. :(
While I understand that there isn't room to widen the existing road without cutting some of them down, it would have been nice if they had bought more right-of-way on the west side of the road in the farmers field area and left more of the trees that segregate the course and existing homes from the road.
