I prefer to focus on the bright side of things. There was some good news in the Osborn article. According to that Russian professor, "...Around the end of June 2010, or early July, he says, the U.S. will break into six pieces -- with Alaska reverting to Russian control..."
At least we permanently get rid of Palin! :pepper2:

This is a goofy idea, of course. But if you think about it for just an instant, the question arises...would The Villages be one of the six parts? It seems to me that we live in our own little bubble here and if no one from the outside bothers us, we'd be just fine.

It was not that long ago when Canada almost self-destructed over the Quebec secessionist movement - and British Columbia was already positioning for Trust Territory / Statehood, and the Maritimes were posturing the same way.
If for no reason than economic security, a North American confederation of the 50 US States, the 13 Canadian Provinces/Territories and 31 Mexican States may evolve sometime this century. There is such an economic interdependence among the US, Canada and Mexico that it is not illogical.
In my lifetime we"ve added two states from what was an independent entity and also from Russian control. There are TVers who were around when two former Mexican properties became states. So, the addition of more states in this century is not far-fetched.
Political evolution without revolution is exciting.
