When I was getting out of the 1:40 p.m. showing of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button yesterday at Lake Sumter Square, there was a car with a senior couple going the wrong way just east of Johnny Rockets on the Square round-about.

I thought how ironic as Button is about the lives of a man who ages backwards from an 85 year old man in a baby's body to a baby with the internal diseases of an 85 year old man. It also about his two main female loves.

I did not stick around to see what happened with the car going the wrong way. The couple in the car were stopped though and trying to figure out how they had got so turned around.

Last week there was a couple going east in the divided west lane of 466. It is a wonder we don't have more wrecks here than we do. Stupid is as stupid does......

Saw a minivan coming out of the Belvedere gate try to make a right onto the golf cart path next to the library. He didn't fit, and looked like he bent the pole which says "no vehicles." A few days later, I was driving east on 466 and saw a golf cart, man driving with kids come out of Southern Trace and make a right onto 466 west!!!

There was an SUV going west on the cart path in front of the Colony Center a couple of days ago...sure would have been fun to see him try to go thru the Havana tunnel!

I gotta plead guilty to trying to get on a golf cart path in my Miata. I'd been driving nothing but a golf cart for three weeks and, out of habit, drove right up to the path. I figured something was wrong when my right rear tire went over the curb. Quickly backed up and headed off into the sunset. I keep hoping no one saw me.

I have to admit to going through the Piedmont Gate and starting towards the circle to enter Buena Vista while in my golf cart. I made a quick left turn went back through the gate and onto the golf cart path. No cars or carts around so I was embarrassed all by myself. Lucky me for realizing my mistake in time, and with no one watching.:ohdear::ohdear:

I'm glad to hear the confessions by Red and Beads. As ridiculous as it sounds, when alternating back and forth between cart and SUV, I sometimes forget (just for a second) what I'm driving.

I haven't tried to fit my large SUV onto a golf cart path, thank heavens, but I have found myself driving on the side of a road in the cart zone.

Maybe we're all a victim of "mad cow" (Denny Crane on Boston Legal).

About 3 months ago I was running on that path when a Red Mercedes Convertible came within 3 feet of hitting me. The lady put the car in reverse when she realized her mistake, didn't look and almost took a cart out that was right behind her.:laugh::laugh:

Oh Beady, that happened to us at the Virginia Trace Buena Vista gate. Mr. Judy was the one driving and I was the one shouting "Nocartspastthispoint! Nocartspastthispoint! Nocartspastthispoint!"
He likes me to read the signs to him.
Fortunately, nobody was around to see us. (Fumar, that was somebody else on camera)

Id too would have to guess that the couple going the wrong way in a roundabout were likely vacationing Brits.

Back in the 80s, I had to make numerous business trips to Swindon England. Driving on the left took some time to get comfortable with. But there is one big intersection that was always a harrowing experience to get through. It is affectionately known by the locals as the Magic Roundabout. Its one big roundabout interconnected with four smaller roundabouts. I used to dread having to go through it. Heres an aerial shot of it:

If you think 'The Magic Roundabout' is bad, imagine you have just arrived in England, having landed at Heathrow airport. You pick up your rental car, and attempt to leave the airport. This is where the fun begins, there are 2 of these damned roundabouts for you to find your way around. This is the reason we always enter & leave the airport by the 'back way'

OK, so these stories are quite funny and tragic at the same time.

I'm not going to make any promises, but my husband and I will be in town on a lifestyle preview visit Feb. 2-8 and we will try our darndest to obey all the traffic rules and not pull off any faux pas.

We've already watched the roundabout video somebody posted on TOTV so we should be good in that area. As far as speeding goes, I'm not a grandma yet, but I sure drive like one (well a slow one anyway) ;)

Looking forward to visiting soon.

I don't think you will have to worry to much. It is amazing how firendly people are here. Every time I drive my golf cart around one of the roundabouts everyone honks and waves.

55, that must have been you we saw coming out of the Caroline gate this afternoon and heading into the roundabout and proceeding north on Morse. Whoever we saw doing that, it definitely was not a street legal cart.

Another crazy thing I saw today was a fire engine with lights and sirens going coming up on a golf cart waiting to turn left from Bonita Blvd to Canal. The fire truck had to slow down to safely get around the cart because the cart would not move. Hopefully those additional seconds didn't mean life or death to whomever the fire truck was responding to. :ohdear:
