I probably would have dropped the camera running in the other direction. Great picture Ron.

One snuck into my enclosed lani thru the siding , opened the door and had to use the broom to move it along and out the door.

Last week I had a face-off with two of them in the driveway. They came out from under the car. I was concerned that there was a nest of them.

Looks like a harmless black racer. They are afraid of people and can really move fast to escape.

I've seen some little harmless garter snakes around, but this black snake looks big!
I've done a cobra pose in Yoga and it doesn't look like that!
Very handsome snake! Great picture. Tell me you were using a telephoto lens...:)

From the photo, it looks like it is still alive.
Sorry, but I will never have to worry about taking a photo that close of a live snake. :ohdear:

The King snake takes on a copperhead. Stay clear of a copperhead they will attack.

As usual for you, a fabulous photo. Having said that, your idea of harmless is not mine!
Congratulations, though, on all of your world class photos.

I don't even like worms, if I saw a snake you'd hear my scream all over TV.

Snake snuck into an enclosed lanai under siding! Yikes. I stuffed steel wool along the siding at the bottom. I hope that is enough.

Where were you when posters were arguing on another thread as to whether a stucco house or house with siding was better:22yikes:

That snake was doing what came natural. Whenever confronted by danger most animals and reptiles make themselves look bigger than what they are. That snake certainly did a great job.

Although my mind knows it is a harmless black racer. Black racers do a lot of good like keeping mice, rats and other snakes away, it's not poisonous and should be welcome. I'm STILL keeping my garage door down as much as possible!
I once saw a Eastern Hognose....now, there is a harmless snake that is a real Colbra impersonator to make your hair stand on end and your eyes get locked in a long stare before your senses kick in.

Probably not, when my daughter lived in Tampa she had a black racer living under some siding about 6 feet off the ground.

If one thinks they have a "snake issue" there is always the product called snake away. A granulated product that has a very strong scent similar to ground up moth balls. Sprinkle it along thresholds to the lanai/birdcage.
Snakes highly sensitive ability to smell does not like this scent.
It does work.
Remember no matter how much one does not like snakes.....do not kill them. They do more good than harm.
Many are protected species:

What a beauty! Funny how they can look so big and bad when all they want is peace. I'd much rather see this guy in my house than those giant spiders!
