We have arrived in TV and just getting settled in and organized. Kind of a strange trip..snow in Syracuse and a big gridlock at Savannah but we managed to get here in one piece. Took 3 days but we are here. Already booked two tee times, got tickets for Phil Dirt and the Dozers, did a little dancing at LSL last night (much to the amazement of my wife who says it is the first time in 25 years..not true but close). Keep thinking of my poor little grandaughter so have to get my mind on other things even it means dancing. Going to try and go to SS tonight to see 'scooter'. Saw an earlier post about that so don't know if it is worthwhile or if someone was just teasing about saving chairs etc. Never know with some of the jokesters on here. Dear wife wants to find out about quilting clubs here in TV so will let her use the phone.

Is there anywhere that there is a map or a list of stores in and about the Villages? Did find Walmart though.

KathieI...I promise to call but cannot call long distance on this phone so was wondering if your cell with the 301 area code is long distance.

Hope to meet some of you soon. thanks again for the nice messages and support that some of you sent.

Well, I guess you know now I was NOT kidding about the chair hogs ar SS if you went there last night. We don't go to the squares but maybe once or twice a month because of the crowds, drinking, noise, etc. Now we have another reason. Lack of supervision by the "chair police" over individuals who think they are "special".

Enjoy the warmth Doug.

I think it's time for a new phone. I believe all new wireless plans now come with unlimited LD to US and Canada for base charge, I know mine does.

I think the best way to navigate to all the stores is just get in the golf cart and drive. You'll figure it out. Then take the car and navigate the surrounding 10 miles or so outside of the golf cart zone to see what's outside of TV.

Good luck.

There is shopping all over TV. Maps can be purchased at sales office or if you're an AAA member, at their office in Spanish Springs or Sumter Landing. Loads of shopping on 441 near Spanish Springs town square or on 466 going, I believe, south. Tell the Mrs to shop at Beall's outlet on monday for 15% discount. Great deals on just about everything. You can also go to the mall in Leesburg or the larger one in Ocala.

Welcome to a fellow Canuck ...

If you tell us what Village you are staying in, we can probably point you to the nearby good stores and restaurants.

it has a map for each town square with a listing and location of each and every store.

CR 466 runs East & West.

Specifically what stores--or types of stores--are you looking for?

got in the car and did a major tour this morning so now have a pretty good idea where everything is. Bealls will certainly be a stop for my wife and she was also looking for a Joann's fabric but think that must be outsie TV.

Talk about major crowds..went to LSL this morning for the craft show and WOW.

I do indeed now know about chairs and people saving them etc. We went to see Scooter last night and thought he was terrific but even when we got there at 4:45 everything was taken but alot of empty chairs with towels clipped to the back of them etc.

We are in Chatham/Piedmont across from the Lopez course. Thanks for all the help.
Been having a few problems with my laptop this morning but hope all is well now if I can only get rid of this annoying 'beep' every 15 seconds.

If you come south on Buena Vista to 466 and turn right (west) you will pass Southern Trace on the right-hand side, and after that Buffalo Ridge.

Southern Trace has Publix, Crispers, Bealls Outlet, Hardware Store.

If you go south from 466 on Belvedere one block to Parr Drive there is a library on the corner.

Going west on 466, Palm Ridge has a CVS store, Street Rod Carts, etc.

Buffalo Ridge has Bonefish Grill, Nails and Beyond, and in back of that, a large new Bealls Store.

Going west on 466 there is a Hollywood Nails, diet Icecream, Golden Corral buffet restaurant, Perkins, MacDonalds, and in back of that, the new Walmart.

There is also a beauty teaching salon in that area that has very reasonable prices for hair cuts.

Enjoy your visit .. you'll have a wonderful time. Our warmest thoughts are with your family and granddaughter.

He could be talking about the land line in the rental. They have long distance blocked.

Hi Doug, Welcome to TV!! Sorry I didn't respond sooner, been busy today at the Craft Fair. 310 area code is my Los Angeles area code and I see that you won't be able to call from the rental phone. Just PM me when you will be available to meet and I'll try to organize something. I know a few of the regulars are looking forward to meeting you and your wife. See you soon I hope. Kath

Joann's is off of 441 by Best Buy. You do have to drive there or put your life in your hands by parking across the street and walking over (no golf cart access to that side of Rolling Acres Road).

Thanks to everyone for all the great information. My wallet is now lighter because we found most of the stores. I appreciate all your help.

Kathie, I just sent you a PM.

For future reference, there is a shopping and entertainment guide that has maps of both Spanish Springs and Lake Sumter Landing with locations of all the shops, restaurants, restrooms, parking, and ATMs. You can get it at the Sales Offices and the Mercantile Stores.

Two great resources :pepper2: - as billethkid said, 'Pick up a copy of TV Magazine' - yes and now it is online, for those that didn't know. The Villages post a 2008 archive page at:
http://www.thevillages.com/newsletter/200901/Magazine.htm

Once you are on a magazine, though, bookmark it, in case the index page goes away. Then you can change which month you are looking at by changing the link slightly:
http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/thevillages/1208/ is December 2008. Just change the "/1208/" to another month, e.g. /0708/ is July 08, /0208/ is Feb. 08. Magnify with plus sign and reduce with minus sign. :coolsmiley:

I also like this pdf with activities and clubs -
VCDD Recreation News - it's updated often:
http://www.thevillagesdailysun.com/content/current/sections/recnews.pdf

Enjoy the Villages for us... we'll be there in about two years.
