Hello - I am concerned about walking my dog on the hot asphalt or concrete during the summer months. Would that be a problem for my dogs paw pads? How do you handle this issue? Do you put booties on your dogs paws to avoid the hot surfaces?
Thank you! Marvin Horlick

You have to walk in the early am or when the sun goes down. Very important. Yes, it will definitely hurt your pups pads.

I took pooch in the golf cart to the grassy area around the neighborhood pool to walk during the hot days...and yes "dog poop patrol" I picked it up :)

Concrete does not get nearly as hot as asphalt. Buy some booties and you'll be all set.

Glad to see others care for their pets too and don't treat them like livestock

If you take your dogs for walks in your neighborhood, please make sure they p & p on your lawn before they leave home.
Depending on where you live, you may be lucky enough to have a dog park nearby.
There are four Village owned dog parks; the best and largest is south of CR 466A.
There is a wonderful private dog park on CR 101 on ten acres called Doggie Doo Run Run.
Pay a pittance and they pick up the poop. :p

Hello folks - thanks for your replies. Regarding walking in the neighborhood. If I direct my dog to the grassy areas next to the roadways that should solve the issue of the hot surfaces, correct?
Thanks! Marvin

It's probably also done at SS, but, during the farmers mkt. at Brownwood, signs are posted numerous places during the hot days warning pet owners of the hot asphalt. Still yet, I always see some dum-dums plodding along with their pets, probably scalding their pets feet. :rant-rave::rant-rave:

If those 'grassy areas' are your neighbors lawns - beware the rogue sprinkler systems that erupt as your dog enters the area; and the ground hot pepper sprinkled along the lawn edge your dog might sniff; and any other ingenius device[s] folks might be using to keep dogs off their property! ;) My guess is that your dog would prefer the booties.

I'm not in The Villages yet but I don't walk Lexi on hot days here in Michigan. Luckily for me, Lexi is small and is pee pad trained. She still loves going for walks and loves the dog parks when she visits The Villages.

Last summer, someone posted (either on TOTV or Facebook) pictures of a dog's paws that had gotten severely burned from a walk! The burns were horrible and had to be so painful. Lexi is 15 months old today and my first dog in over 30 years so it's a new learning experience!

:$::pray::pray::pray:When I see folks walking their dog's on hot blacktop & concrete I figure they haven't a clue about the pain they're making their pet endure. People, people, people please if you wouldn't walk barefoot on these hot surfaces what makes you think a dog is different. It all comes down to common sense ! I recently read somewhere that common sense is a flower that's not grown in everyone's garden. Seems to fit perfectly here.
