We had the same experience last year with a flowering plant at our front entrance. It was amazing to watch how with due diligence and dispatch mother dove executed her duties.

Sitting hour after hour incubating her eggs. When they hatched she was quickly picked up after egg shell carrying it away from the nest. You might have seen some empty eggshells in your yard that's were mother tossed them.

Mother then nursed her babies until they could fly and at the moment they could fly well they were on their own
