Well, I promised that I would post pics as we progressed with our remodelling project. I have been so busy with the remodel project, that i haven't had time to breathe. Anyway, here is what we have done so far.....

In the kitchen:

We had to pull down the formica that was used as a backsplash. We had a company come in and replace the countertop with granite. Once they were done, we proceeded to tile the backsplash ourselves. Pics of the kitchen will be in the next post.

Next, we started on the spare bathroom. Everything in the bathroom was pink from the 1950's. We had a pink bathtub, toilet, tile on the shower, tile on the floor, sink and countertop. All pink!!!! We replaced the sink, toilet and tile around the shower. We removed the countertop and the glass block window that went into the master bath. My husband also re-plumbed behind the tub and shower to update the fixtures. Couldn't find replacement parts for 1950's fixtures. Pictures follow in the next post.

Now we are in the middle of remodelling the master bathroom. Everything in there was 1950's teal green. Tile on the floor, toilet, shower, sink all green! We have torn out the shower area, and we have a plumber coming in the morning. We have to move the drain for the shower pan, and that is a little beyond my hubby's capabilities. We went with an acrylic shower enclosure (which was not my choice!), but since we aren't planning on staying here I guess it will look fine for selling. I have pics of where we are right now with this portion of the remodel. I will post pics when we are done.

SS,

This all looks quite wonderful. I love the tile and granite. Nice work.

And I have had a few gutted bathrooms in my life. So I can relate to that picture of the missing shower.

Once when we were gutting a house we had just bought, Mr. Boomer carried a toilet out into the front yard where he left it for a few hours just to torment me. Toilets are heavy. Did you know that? I could not move the :cus: thing. It was funny though. I think the neighbors were all terrified for a little while. I bet they thought I might be planning to turn it into a flower pot.

We just took the toilet out of the bathroom today, and yes it is sitting in the yard waiting for garbage day. (which is Monday morning) We live a hundred yards or so back from the road though, so no one but us is going to see it. All the demo is done, so we are on the downhill side of this remodel. We have started putting the countertop back together, the shower stall is up and the new dry wall is installed. We are staining the cabinet, tiling the countertop and floor, installing the new toilet and painting the walls. Sounds like a lot, but will go very fast. Can't wait until it is done. We have been torn up in the house now since Nov. 1st. Can't wait to start removing all the construction dust. :pepper2:

First, it looks terrific. I love the granite and the backsplash. Kudos for you both for a great job.

Remind me again, that you are remodeling to sell? Obviously to get down here to your new friends in The Villages. I LOVE to see what real people do in remodeling. I am a huge fan of "Designed to Sell" on TOTV.

Keep up the good work, looking forward to having you join us here in Paradise!

Yes GG, we are remodelling to be able to sell. We had it on the market from late March until Nov. 1st and had 39 people come through the house. The only negative comments were on the bathrooms. So we decided that we would update them before we put the house back on the market again in March. We did the granite and tile in the kitchen as an extra WOW factor. The bathrooms were the only rooms in the house that were not updated and still looked like the 1950's. Now everything should look modern and updated. Hopefully we will get a quick sale because of all the work!

The kitchen counter and back splash looks wonderful. Was that the granite overlay you were talking about? I can relate to the pink bathroom I had that in our second home and it was ugly. Nice work maybe you can hire out your husband in the villages, just to keep him busy. Good Luck when you put it back on the market. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the master bath make over.

Yes Mik, that is the granite overlay on the kitchen countertop. There must be someone in your area that does that kind of work. We found another local contractor that also does the overlay, so you should check around.

I told my hubby that once everyone got a glance at what he can do, they would be clamouring for his services once we got down to TV. I told him that I still get first refusal for his services though.

Well, we are leaving today for our vacation out west, and we didn't get everything done on the master bath remodel. We still have to install the toilet, the shower doors, and the towel bars. We are building a frame for the mirror and staining it to match the cabinets, so that still has to go up too. And we still have to paint. Other than that, everything else is done. So, here is the pic of where we are so far.....

Here are the before and after pictures of our master bath remodel that I promised to post. The bath was 1950's teal green on the floor, wall, sink and toilet. We demolished everything except the cabinet and mirror. We stained the cabinet and built a frame for the mirror and stained it to match the cabinet. We tore off the old countertop and built a new one from scratch and tiled it. We ripped off the old tile on the floor and put in new tile. Tore out the old shower and soffet. Raised the ceiling over the shower to the rest of the ceiling height and installed a new recessed light. Put in a new acrylic shower and new toilet. Here are the pics:

Can relate. I had a 4 baths to do, green, blue, chocolate and harvest gold. Yellow Formica, slate and linoleum on the floor, and wallpaper on every square inch possible when I bought our current home. Different carpet in every room, from chocolate shag to gold and blue. Every room a different color scheme. Took a year and a half, but have done 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, kitchen, all new floors, hardwood down and carpet up, re-did entire basement (that was dark paneling), removed all the wallpaper, and all counter tops. So I know the pain and $$$ you have gone through. But in the end it is worth it. Now when we get ready to sell, just some touch up paint, maybe shampoo the family room carpet, wash all the windows, and it's ready to go on the market.

Canwego2 - Thanks, it was a ton of work! We're hoping to be able to sell this year and start our new lives as frogs in TV. I saw in the newbie thread that you are from Chesterfield? We're in Plymouth, so about an hour away from you. Congrats on your new house in Duval!!!! You must be really excited!

We're neighbors. When you sell and get to TV we will have to meet and help each other get settled in. Karen
